On August 18th, Bitcoin.org was registered by a mysterious organization known as Anonymous Speech LLC.
As a sign that Nakamoto wanted to keep his identity secret, he wrote down his address as 133 Sakura House in Tokyo.
However, a day earlier, the same organisation had also registered Netcoin.org.
All this points to Satoshi Nakamoto's agony over whether his flagship cryptocurrency should be called Bitcoin or Netcoin.
They wouldn't know at the time that the name of their invention would be on everyone's lips 13 years later, when its value would be racing to a staggering $68,700.
Tweeting his discovery, Weinberger said:
“According to Wayback Machine, no content was ever present on the http://netcoin.org domain except for only after it was repurchased by another person later on… It’s truly amazing that you can still reveal new information on such a researched subject.”
With a bit of hindsight, a number of his Twitter followers have said that they think Bitcoin is a much more appealing name. Some suggest that Netcoin sounds a little bit nerdy.
Others asked why Craig Wright, who claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto, did not mention the possibility of this alternative name.
