Right next to the City of San Carlos is the City of Belmont. Belmont is a very small city, encompassing only about 4.5 square miles of land. According to the Department of Finance, the city had a population of 26,491 residents. Belmont has a primarily residential character.
The zoning ordinance limits commercial and industrial activity primarily to the downtown district, portions of the El Camino Real corridor, a small area focused around the intersection of Alameda de las Pulgas and Ralston Avenue, a small industrial corridor between Highway 101 and the Caltrain railroad spur, and a strip of land just to the east of Highway 101.
A small portion of the city is located within the Redwood Shores area, an area that is mostly within the city limits of Redwood City. Redwood Shores has several major office developments, and is the headquarters of Oracle, Electronic Arts, and many other companies.
The majority of apartment buildings in Belmont include studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom units with parking and private terraces.
