I have been hearing that crypto is essentially anonymous but I don't think it is unless,
- I buy it with cash (which is illegal and dangerous for large amounts).
- I don't mention my identity at all (which is kinda impossible in any transaction).
We think it is anonymous but it's not unless your are early owner who bought all these coins in millions or mined after investing huge amount of money.
Also, except DOGE (for donations) no one is really using coins. People are just investing and selling coins on perceptions, but none of these coins are being transacted among real population. May be they have lost their purpose.
Even if we talk about ETH, they are targeting huge companies to make big bucks, but no one uses ETH for transactions.
Looks like we are still under the shadow of complete Governance (exchanges etc. , tied to Govt. Rules) and anonymity is just a myth unless we start doing illegal stuff.
The only benefit of crypto is that we have something better than any commodity or fiat, which can make big bucks for short terms.
May be we have lost the real purpose of crypto currencies and corporate with huge governance will make it soon ineffective.
Thanks!

That might certainly be the pessimists view.
Personally, I take the optimistic view and and act that out in my life in such a way as to bring that reality into being.
Life won't hand us the riches without struggle. It takes thought and action to bring dreams to reality.

It really depends which crypto you're talking about. Zcash, Monero, Torcoin, and some others center on anonymity. Bitcoin, not so much.
