I think Dogecoin has a lot of potential long-term.
1 - The community mostly just memes on Reddit at this point, but they never stop, and the community continues to grow.
2 - The price point is important psychologically imo. It's much harder to think in terms of "I need 0.000001456 bitcoin to buy X" than it is to think you need 2 or 3 Dogecoins.
3 - The dog logo/mascot makes the coin approachable and less intimidating, and most people love dogs. Silly or not, it has a positive effect on adoption.
4 - A lot of people missed out on the bitcoin craze, including celebrities. More celebrities are pushing Dogecoin every day, and I believe they see it as their opportunity to create and cash in on a second bitcoin.
5 - Development is not all that strong at this point, but the trend is going up (https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/dogecoin#developer

6 - Large companies continue to adopt Dogecoin to tap into the Dogecoin audience/userbase.
7 - The mainstream media is constantly either mentioning or attacking Dogecoin, which probably means they see it as a threat, and all the extra attention is helping it grow by leaps and bounds.
