Daniel Brain who works for Paypal as a lead engineer in Checkout is the creator of BrainBlocks, a simple checkout app for the popular RaiBlocks cryptocurrency.
According to Brain, he has always been interested in how cryptocurrencies work but nothing has inspired him yet to make something on top of the existing blockchains. However, things changed when he found out about RaiBlocks.
One of the biggest problems for bitcoin is that it cannot handle a high volume of transactions, since the number of transactions it can handle is limited. Some bitcoin transactions take hours. On top of the long waiting time, users are also charged as much as $15 per transaction.
This is where RaiBlocks come into play. Zero fees and near instant transactions are the two main benefits that RaiBlocks offers. Instead of having one large blockchain-based network, it has individual blockchains. Moreover, it successfully avoids the need to use a wider blockchain network to verify transactions.
Because RaiBlocks is relatively new and isn’t just an incremental improvement on top of bitcoin’s blockchain technology, Brain immediately became interested in it. He educated himself on the platform and tried to do a few sub-10-second transactions by himself.
The weekend after trying RaiBlocks, Brain built BrainBlock’s proof-of-concept. He spent a few more days to polish it and it’s now working well. You can try it now if you want to send and receive some transactions.
However, since it is only his weekend hack project, the checkout app is still at alpha quality.
Lastly, the good news is users of BrainBlocks are charged with zero fees.
haha looks like he wants to get involved
