Name YOUR decentralized social network?

Btw, IBM has also launched a blockchain named Credits. Names related to our cred token name idea are becoming quite overused in the crypto space:

  • Credits altcoin project by IBM
  • Verify altcoin project with Cred token name
  • Credo token name
  • Decred altcoin project

I’m currently brainstorming another idea for absolute simplicity of the token name. I’m thinking the token name should be so fundamental that it can’t be any simpler, so that no other token name could be easier to say or remember. And to remove all confusion with other projects and names.

Thus the token name e comes to mind, which has many possible connotations such as e-cash, electron, e-commerce, e-ink, ether, eternal, everywhere, earth, etc..

I’m brainstorming names which would fit with that e token name:

Einstein (the brain of the Internet, there’s an altcoin Einsteinium)
Everse (think not only its surprisingly apt meaning, but also associations to universe or metaverse)
Entropy (AFAIK, there’s a token with this name but not a project)
Ecash (it’s unclear whether this is still trademarked)
Exograph (my novel technology inverts control over the DAG from miners to stochastic action)
Exascale (scaling a blockchain, also Exoscale which has more domains available but .com and .org in use)

There are no reasonable entropy domains available. Domains entropy.net and entropy.org appear to not be in use.

Domains einstein.net, einstein.org and einste.in aren’t in use so presumably could be for sale. Domain einstein.to is available.

Domain everse.net is available for 12 monthly payments of $242. Also available for outright purchase with Bitcoin for $2895. Domains everse.app, everse.cc, e-verse.com and e-verse.org are available.

We currently hold the eca.sh domain but it expires in February and am undecided if we will renew it again. Note that Ecash really doesn’t fully describe the project and focuses only on the currency aspect. Also people are likely to say “ecash” instead of “e” for the token name.

Domain exograph.com is available for 12 monthly payments of $158. Also available for outright purchase with Bitcoin for $1895. Domains exograph.net and exograph.org are available.

Domains exascale.cc, exoscale.cc, exoscale.co and exoscale.us are available. Domains exascale.com and exascale.net appear to not be in use.

Of the above new name ideas, I like Everse the best for a user facing name and Exograph or Exascale best for ledger technology name. I doubt many people know the meaning of Everse is to overthrow or subvert. For technology focused name, I may prefer Exograph or Exascale over dMesh but uncertain if any of those standout in the sea of technology or user focused cryptocurrency names such as Hashgraph, Metaverse, Tron, Ethereum, EOS, Tezos, Iota†, Nano, Stratis, Verge, Factom, Augur, Electroneum, Holo, Elastos, HyperCash, Loopring, Nebulas, Loom, Credo, Swarm, Unobtanium, Fusion, Cortex, Credits, Edgeless, Ubiq†, Einsteinium, Burst, Cred†, VIBE†, Cosmos, Dfinity, etc.? Actually dMesh is shorter but perhaps less meaningful?

Of all the name ideas thus far, the ones that stand out for me the most (i.e. unique, memorable, and brandable) are Uncommons and Oodles. But Oodles is very silly unless we could focus people on “Oodles of ____” where the blank is the name of the money, and thus should only be a Dapp name for maybe games. I can’t think of a succinct token name which naturally connects with Oodles. Of all the names, the only one that Michelle (a filipina) can give me the correct meaning of is Uncommons. She correctly states it means uniqueness. She initially remarked that e is a boring name, but when I explained that people want the token name to be quick and succinct as they repeat it often, she seemed to concur that some people may prefer it streamlined. She did relate e to electronic.

For user facing brandable meaning, I prefer Everse and/or Uncommons but I’m not sure if the former can stand out as much as the other two above, partially because no one knows the meaning and also because portmanteaus with ‘verse’ are less compelling than a such a startling word as ‘uncommon’.

None of those three user facing names speak to the technology really. They are more apt for the Dapps themselves.

With centralized (i.e. not yet on a blockchain) Gab receiving so much press lately, perhaps focusing on a good user facing brand is better than the strategy of focusing on a technology name for the project and ledger and then separate Dapp names?

If we base purely on meaning, then Everse is most generally fit for the user facing project name. Because Uncommons has narrower focus for some specific dApp that provides some unique content or perhaps which is focused on the Inverse Commons concept although I doubt many people will make such an abstract connection when uniqueness is the obvious meaning.

I like the connection of “the e universe” combined with the actual meaning to subvert (we have plan to disintermediate Amazon.com with this project!).

The more I think about it Everse would be at no disadvantage compared to list of extant cryptocurrency names above. It is only one letter longer than dMesh and it is more unique. There can be many portmanteaus with ‘d’ such as dLedger. Also the dApp idea originates from Vitalik or Daniel Larimer, so it is as we are being less original with our naming. I have for a long-time been trying to think of a name which conveyed universality. That is why I had thought of ‘ubiquitous’ and ‘ubiq’ for short in 2014 or 2015.

I am thinking Everse for the project name, e for the token name, and Exograph for the ledger technology name.

Feedback?

† Name ideas ostensibly that originated from me. Note Decred predated my idea for Cred.

How bout CREDledger?

Too long. Lost in a sea of wordy portmanteaus. Lacks apt meaning. Not that memorable. Looks like we were too inept to think of a creative name. Etc.

There’s already a crypto project named Decred.

EDIT: some private discussion:

E is very simple. Kind of a no brainer but was overlooked because it's stupidly simple

Everse makes sense! What can I say? Remind me, what was your most recent suggestion for the network name? All I can think of is Cred...

Unfortunately as I explained CRED has been used by four other altcoins.

Perhaps the proliferation of name ideas and also that none of them achieved any holistic objective on the branding, is probably why you don’t remember them (Hyperdata, dMesh, etc).

Is Everse any less descript than Facebook? Facebook meant profiles of faces. Everse means the universe of E. E is the currency token. Everse also has the definition to overthrow or usurp (subvert).

How much more direct could we possibly be? Hits all the objectives:

  • Implies universality
  • Implies upending the corrupt status quo (of centralization)
  • Ties the currency name holistically into the project name
  • Simplifies the currency name such that it can be no simpler

So seriously what do you think of the name?

How much does it matter?

Can your wife appreciate E as a currency?

I really do not think Everse is very powerful name. It is sort of like Facebook. Has to grow on you?

Well the question, how much does it matter, is also my question

How perfect is the name Bitcoin? In some ways it's great, in others it's pretty cheesy

Everse vs Hyperdata vs dMesh I'd probably say Everse is best

Everse is at least a place.

Instead of “Google it”, they can say “try that in the Everse”.

On the downside, people might associate ‘verse’ with scripture and think it is a religious site! Yikes!

I like Cred still as the token. E is perfectly fine too imo

E is more pure and abstract. A new money needs to have a new identity. Needs to be even more unique than the dollar or the Euro. Cred is copycat. E is totally new.

They have e-coin in this show, and I'm afraid people will naturally gravitate towards adding 'coin' after E when referring to the currency.

I doubt that.

The whole coin thing is endemic only to the Bitcoin space, not the masses. Masses would be more likely to say ecash than ecoin.

I like the Everse name, but I like Cred more as the token.

I do not like Everse anymore now that I thought of people confusing it with Biblical scripture. I do not like Cred anymore because it really is not suitable for a world wide currency. It sounds like a game token. Very local and parochial.

Someone also mentioned it sounds like ‘adverse’.

Would E be listed on exchanges with just E as the ticker symbol?

Yeah! Cool isn’t it?

I like the single letter ticker, not sure if I have ever seen that

Yeah that’s the point. Be unique. Stand out. Creates hype.

I like 'E' or 'e' a lot. Bold and beautiful. Not so sure about Everse, didn't think of anything biblical though, more like verse as in verses of any song. Does it even have to have a longer name, could it be just simply 'E'? Or 'C' without any official long name, people would interpret it anyway they want, Coin, Currency, Credit, Cent... Though I like E better without any long name.

Your thoughts are very similar to mine. I like E but just do not know what to name the project. I would name the project E if the domain was available. Maybe we can come up with a project name that fits?

For what it's worth I don't think much of Uncommons (can't put my finger on why) but I reckon Everse is great - best name yet. For many reasons you've noted but mainly because it's succinct and palatable while visually portraying scope and scale... BTW when I suggested CREDledger I misread your post - thought you were sold on CRED and looking for a replacement for Dmesh. I certainly wasn't claiming originality - just marrying your ideas in case you were so close they didn't stand out
