Name YOUR decentralized social network?

in cryptocurrencies •  6 years ago  (edited)

Broadened change in conceptual approach from the prior recent name ideas in this discussion thread (not referring to the original name ideas on this blog post).

We decided against Everse because it sounds like ‘adverse’ and it can be (mis-)associated with song or scripture verses.

We like the token name E for the reasons stated.

New ideas to replace Everse:

On Busy.org the above table isn’t clipped on the right side. Striked-out TLDs are domains I registered.

Antifere, Antirupt and Beeline are intended to relate conceptually to permissionless, i.e. that no middle man nor authority can interfere, interrupt nor monopolize.

Antilog is a math term, but since most people are ignorant of math, I suspect they might associate it with the antithesis of ‘analog’. IOW, more or less meaningless somewhat like ‘google’ (perhaps associated with ‘goggle’ but originated from googol). What I am thinking here is that is a technological name and it could mean the antithesis of a centralized or individually isolated log or ledger. Perhaps also loosely associated with ‘antidote’. The problem with centralized (i.e. not open) databases is for example how Amazon’s proprietary algorithms are subverted, causing customers to have a less reliable experience. By opening the database, customers can experiment with various algorithms so that subversion strategies will be foiled. The free market can best anneal solutions. For example, customers can independently choose which buyers they trust based on various metrics. Our decentralized onboarding verification will also play a significant role in improving over what Amazon can do. If Ebunk associates with ‘debunk’, then it’s also targeted to the veracity of open databases.

Antimeta literally means not higher-level, semantics stratification. But many websites today have a special area meta where everything censored gets relegated to. So this can be taken to mean anti-censorship. Also it is a technological name given the association to ‘antimatter’. Even though this doesn’t have E prominently in the name, I think the electronic token name still matches a technological name. Meaning doesn’t have to be precise, as long as people don’t misassociate with an undesirable meaning. Meta is a nebulous for most people, so they will not likely associate it with anything except ‘antimatter’.

Eloop sounds like ‘elope’ which in modern parlance means to escape. Loop also has a technical connotation such as Elon Musk’s Hyperloop and the extant altcoin Loopring.

The Espace domains are going to be expensive because of the association with formerly top social network Myspace.

Eterra means land of E or specifically reshaping the earth as land of E. Look up the definition of ‘terra’. I’m thinking also an association with ‘etcetera’ which is a positive. When I thought of this name, I remembered that Etoro.com had been spamming me on Youtube.

Exobase means outside database because exo means outside.

I’m hoping Galetric / Galectron associates with ‘galactic’, ‘galaxy’, electricity and electronic?

EDIT: I have added Codata, Coeffect, Eehive, Etonomy, Etribe, Exodata, Hiveffect and Netizen(s).

The technological names that begin with Co- attempt to describe doing thinks as a crowd, hive, or swarm effect, i.e. doing them together or shared access. Exodata is data that is and thus accessible from the outside. Etonomy is electronic autonomy and economy combined.

EDIT#2: I added Groove. Please see Merriam-Webster’s definition.

EDIT#3: I added Etrinsic, Indieverse, Klik and Munge. Please see the definition of munge, data munging, and its differentiation from mung. Munge implies the ability to transform the data as needed, not stuck in a walled garden data jail. Also note the alternative definitions for ‘click’ which relate to synergy.

Some definitions of ‘click’:

  • become suddenly clear or understandable.
  • quickly become friendly or intimate.
  • become successful or popular.

EDIT#4: I added Dbog and Droot (aka dBog and dRoot). Some apt definitions of ‘root’:

  • the basic cause, source, or origin of something.
  • establish deeply and firmly.

So those definitions correspond with decentralization removing the centralized middle men between us and the source— the End-to-end principle. And the indelible nature of the blockchain.

Perhaps some smart people may associate with ‘adroit’ and ‘(An)droid’ also.

EDIT#5: I added Dverge, Dverse and Flout.

Removing the ‘i’ is a play on the dApp decentralization meme, makes the name shorter and makes more TLDs of the domains available for registration.

Diverge can signify that users are enabled to diverge from some centralized control with unlimited degrees-of-freedom. Diverse can signify that diversity is allowed and implicitly that there’s no centralized control counteracting diversity. Dverse is also a play on universe and the global meme. Flout is a rebellious theme, but not necessarily politically rebellious or dissident. Flout can be taken to mean being individualistic and ignoring superfluous anal rules such as social stigmas (e.g. thou shall not wear a g-string panty under your skirt to an office job). I have heard the phrase, “flout your beauty.” Meaning to show off and not be humble about it. So in social context, flout can also be associated with boldness and lack of inhibition.

The negatives are that diverge can be perceived by some as an undesirable quality such as disorganization. Diverge can imply that everything diverges away from organized. Diverse can imply the (centralized) enforced political correctness of multiculturalism. And Flout can be perceived by some as destructive, uncooperative and unwilling to conform to perceived necessary structural organization of society.

EDIT#6: I added Boonanza, Breakout, Bustout, Combed, Cur8d, Dappsule, Delouse, Digiverse (which can be abbreviated Dverse), Doughble, Fr33d, Honed, Kleen, Klout, Ndelible, Oodles, Opened, Sthrong, Svelte, Unblocked and Unl0ckd.

etonomy is great. Surpassing Everse for me. Economy and Autonomy; two powerful and relevant concepts in the crypto space easily recognisable in the one palatable name - bravo (IMHO)

Jordan Peterson comes to Bitcoin. https://twitter.com/jordanbpeterson/status/1079534451078713344

His daughter gets censored and complains about it. https://twitter.com/MikhailaAleksis/status/1080386630173642753

Can't wait to see who wins the take down of centralized social behemoths. It's starting to heat up.

Edit: Jordan Peterson agrees to dive in to the shit project "BitTube"

Jordan Peterson is not enough to be the deciding factor in the winner. He can’t onboard millions of people. It’s a lot of noise about not that much. He represents a niche market. The winner will be decided the old fashioned way — years of astute coding and marketing.

Note I tweeted some replies to those links you provided.

Interesting to see where Jordan Peterson et al will settle with. They must be trying a few platforms out - I got an email from libry.io saying he was there
JP_libry.png

Most people do not understand economies-of-scale. They do not even realize how large the surface of this planet it. Jordan Peterson is a small fish in a huge ocean. He will not be the deciding factor on which decentralized platform grows to the necessary economies-of-scale.

He is just now starting to think about decentralized business models and things I have been thinking about for years. He is not a software developer. He will end up choosing the best platform with the most economies-of-scale. So it is we the developers and marketers who will decide where Jordan ends up. The ball is in our court.
