As noted by the publication Trustnodes, the probability that in 2021 there will be a decrease in rewards from 2 ETH to 0.22 ETH, is extremely small, because for this you need to completely abandon the mechanism of Proof of Work (PoW) and go to the algorithm Proof of Stake (PoS).
It will take some time to transfer smart contracts and other tools to the Beacon Chain, where there is support for sharding. It is expected that full sharding will be launched only by 2021, after which it will take several more years to develop the ecosystem to the level at which it will be possible to completely abandon PoW.
In addition, it was previously assumed that the award for PoW miners will be reduced to 0.6 ETH after the launch of the hybrid system. Now, Dreik said that the conservative scenario provides for a small increase in emissions before there is a transition to PoS, where emissions will be reduced.
Yet representatives of the Ethereum Foundation prefer not to give detailed answers to a number of key questions. In particular, it is still unknown what could prevent the reduction of awards for PoW-miners and how the refusal of the Proof of Work is planned already in 2021.
According to the currently available information about the plans for the developers of Ethereum, next year they expect to launch a separate network, where users can transfer their ETH. At the same time, the possibility of a reverse transfer to the PoW network is no longer provided.
As the publication of Trustnodes, the latest news suggests that Ethereum enters the experimental stage, where there will be many questions to which even the developers themselves do not know the answers.
