Agreed. This is a serious problem for BAT.
The only means they provide of KYC is through Uphold, which is basically an exchange. This necessitates being constrained by Uphold's policies in order to receive BAT for your website or utilize the full functionality. Uphold's fees are high and their intrusiveness to privacy is horrible. While TIMM is listed for receiving BAT, in spite of owners being involved in the BAT ICO, we are unable to take advantage of the project.
At one time Brave claimed that we could use Civic for KYC, which is a genuine KYC provider. So we got it all set up in anticipation of what was an empty promise. Requests for followup on this have been ignored.
