POVERTY AND UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME - What if you were paid just for existing? Utopia or Reality?

When you read articles on poverty and enormous inequality in the world, there is a general tendency to think that it is an endemic and inevitable problem. That very few truly understand and have the necessary tools to effectively combat what is undoubtedly one of the main problems of humanity. Well, this tool exists, and it's called money.

Governments spend billions on these complex and complicated schemes to eradicate poverty (such as allocating 0.7% of GDP from rich countries to developing countries, which in practice, no country complies). But the fundamental problem behind poverty is the lack of money. Therefore, the most "obvious" solution when people lack money is "simply" to give it to them, and this is the central idea that revolves around universal basic income.

Throughout recent history, many economists and renowned personalities have supported the idea of universal basic income, guaranteed income or whatever you want to call it. Among them, Martin Luther King, who included it in his last book. The controversial American liberal economist Milton Friedman, who drew up a plan to implement this idea (calling it a negative income tax). And even if it seems contradictory, center-left economists such as James Tobin have also been advocates of this idea. Therefore, it is not an idea associated with a specific political ideology, but, as its name suggests, it is a "universal" concept.

More recently in 1970, after a difficult economic time for the United States where many countries claimed back the gold that supposedly supported their dollars at the time, President Richard Nixon also tried to approve a guaranteed minimum income for all Americans inspired by the ideas of Friedman, which was very close to materialize. Later, President Jimmy Carter also tried to approve the same idea.

Therefore, the universal basic income is not an idea as current, radical and modern as it might seem at first, but this was already a generalized proposal that was tried to be implemented several times in the past (regardless of political color). ). It was not something so crazy, as it may seem today for some people ("free money for all without work? Are we crazy or what?").

And the truth is that several things happened to have this negative perception towards the basic income that many people currently have. The main one, was a series of economic / social experiments that tried to put into practice a version of the basic income called "negative income tax" (proposed by Milton Friedman, of which we spoke earlier) in different cities of United States and Canada. And it was really one of those controversial experiments on which there is still no clear consensus about its true results: most of the press and political class of the time was responsible for conveying the idea that nobody would want to work with this type of measures.

But the truth is that this was far from completely true. The main effect among citizens was that people began to work fewer hours, but it was something quite residual and difficult to identify with certainty. With this basic income, many people spent more time studying, forming and developing their true concerns, which was not so bad, was it? But the main message that was passed from Washington was: "Ok, we have tried this experiment, it has not worked as we wanted, so we keep doing things as we have been doing so far"

Despite what many orthodox economists advocate the dogma of the current capitalism of banksters (bankers gangsters) that governs the world today, which concentrates 82% of the wealth in a privileged 1% of the population, and that causes so much pain and injustice, the truth is that it is totally possible to end poverty, and we should not act as if this was a problem without any solution on which no one has thought to try to fix.

There has been a lot of reflection on how to solve the problem, but the real question is whether it is really worthwhile and willing to do so. For there to be rich, there must be poor, for there to be people at the tip of the pyramid, there must be many below holding all the weight. And do not be naive, like it or not, for this 1% that controls the world, the rest of the population are nothing more than mere puppets for them, so they are not too much willing for things to change.

But times change, and with the current unsustainable debt levels in practically the whole world (with the global GDP of approximately 74 trillion dollars and the debt of approximately 190 trillion), the very likely implosion of many FIAT currencies like the dollar, the emergence of cryptocurrencies and the massive technological unemployment that will be generated in the coming decades thanks to robots, does anyone really think that the current system has much more travel without significant changes?

When a robot collects, transports and sells all the products that arrive every day to the supermarket, when it manufactures your furniture and your houses and even prepares your food in the restaurants and when thanks to the blockchain and intelligent contracts, it is also in charge with total efficiency and transparency of innumerable and tedious administrative tasks, many people will lose their jobs, and therefore, will not have a source of income. And it is exactly this future scenario in which people will increasingly be dispensable, the one that strongly promotes the idea of universal basic income again.

Can you imagine a future in which we did not have the obligation to work, did not have the enormous pressure to get money at all costs and we could devote all our time and potential to develop our creativity and our true motivations and concerns? A world without banks (will bankrupt sooner or later in a massive way) and in which society and the economy are organized in a transparent, clean and decentralized way through cryptocurrencies and the blockchain? A world led by Elon Musk in which the development of renewable energies (such as solar, hydrogen or nuclear fusion energy) guarantee an unlimited supply of energy without dependence on the oil that causes the majority of armed conflicts in the world currently?

Well, although at first all this seems like science fiction, I consider that this is a potential scenario more than possible in the coming years/decades to come (more than anything, if we want to survive as a species). And in this new world, much more fair and clean, where the robots would take care of a large part of the work (this is already happening for example in the grape harvest, where a machine in a day collects the grapes that 20 workers would take 2 weeks to half the price), the idea of implementing a universal basic income would not be unreasonable.

In fact, from my point of view, the implementation of universal basic income would be an excellent idea, and it is not something that I only think in isolation, but countries as advanced as Finland (with center-right government) are already leading Successful projects to put into practice this idea, and big world fortunes like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos, also declare themselves enthusiastic about this measure.

Well, as a strong advocate of the blockchain and universal basic income for a better future that I declare myself, to my surprise, very recently I found a project that combined both ideas and caught my attention: It is MANNABASE: , a crypto that "In theory" is distributed to every human being by the fact of existing. It is a project that is still in beta and has yet to demonstrate much about its viability, reliability and true potential. But if you take a look at the web and read its white paper, the intentions of the project fundamentally seek to eradicate poverty and achieve a better world. So, if it really pursues such a noble goal, why not trying it?

mannabase.jpg

I opened the account recently through a referral link that I found on another steemit post because apparently, they gave me an extra bonus when I started (the subject of the referrals really created me quite suspicious, and I smelled a lot of ponzi , but on the other hand I thought: if they do not ask me for a single cent to participate as in BitConnect or other scams, how can they scam me? In addition, the creators of the project show their face on the web and have a verified LinkedIn profile, which gives me trust and confidence on the project). I think the referral system simply tries to viralize the cryptocurrency and reach as many people as possible, because in the end, the value that is given to something is totally subjective and is nothing more than the consensus of a community with respect to that something, and in the case of money or a cryptocurrency, exactly the same thing happens.

Therefore, I believe that the more this cryptocurrency is extended and the more people maintain the consensus regarding its value, the more it will increase it and more potential to help people will have. I am from Europe, and I admit with some shame and sadness that a euro for me is something ridiculous that I can lose through the hole in my pocket without any concern, while for an African family this same unit of value can suppose the food of a family for a month. This seems really obscene to me. Why does everything have to be so extremely unfair? Is it so utopian to think that with the tools and technology that we have today, things cannot change for the better little by little? ... "You may say I am a dreamer, but I am not the only one" (John Lennon)

That's why I encourage everyone to try this project. If it does not work, we will not have lost anything, but if it does, I think it has the potential to help many people in need in many countries around the world (as steemit does in the daily life of many Venezuelan brothers). The process of opening the account is quite easy and simple: You simply have to register with your mail, verify your address with a message that arrives in the inbox, fill out a form and verify your identity with an sms on your mobile phone . And apparently, deliveries of this crypto are free for anyone on the platform every 5/6 days.

Currently the value of this crypto is around 0.0113, but who knows in the future? Bitcoin also started with a similar price, and I am convinced that if we had the time machine, we would all go back to 2009 to buy all our savings when it was at that price ....

If you are interested in the project, and you want to open the account by earning an initial bonus as I did, I leave my referral link here (feel free to use it if it seems convenient)

If you liked my entry and you found it interesting, I encourage you to leave me your comment and your vote.

Hope you enjoyed the reading! See ya on the next post :)
