Here is why I love APPC-App Store Protocol concept as a developer !

Short intro about me and my project:

  • I am a web/mobile developer, I am a cryptocurrency trader since December and an APPC holder.

  • Based on my needs into the cryptocurrency world and the feedback from friends, I developed an app called: CMC Alert - which is an app that pins notifications to your mobile notification bar with info about market stats and which alerts you when the price goes up or down in a user friendly way.

  • The app is published into Google Play store and Aptoide store (principal partener of AppCoins), and now it is used by 500+ users. CMC Alert screenshot eg.: https://imgur.com/a/mK2c1

Intro: App Store foundation was launched few days ago, you can check their roadmap here: https://www.appstorefoundation.org/ .

Here is why I love APPC - App Store protocol:

1. The current scenario for me and my project

My application is free, it has no ads and requires no permissions. So I said let's try to add some "community support" functionality to the app - this is basically a popup in which there are displayed few cryptocurrencies addresses triggered by a donate button, with which the users could reward the developer if they enjoyed the app. I saw this mechanism on other apps uploaded on store.

A). Did that: I tried to add this functionality into the Google Play store, but guess what: they reject my app update and send me the following message "we had to reject it because it violates our payments policy".

B). Did that: I uploaded it into Aptoide store and everything was fine. - the donate button is there.

C. APPC - App Store protocol: Let's assume that Google Play will not implement the protocol and other stores will. Then, the community support functionality will be allowed and users will be able to reward the developer with APPC by made the transactions directly from the app through the APPC - App Store protocol.

2. Let's assume you have a paid app and you have a startup with low budget

  • either Google Play provide alot of cool statistics and other services, there are plenty of FREE services as well (like Fabric for statistics, Crashlytics for crashes etc). Aptoide has some statistics charts pretty nice too.

A). Google Play store: charge users with 25$ to get a developer account - which is really OK. But if you have for exemple in-app purchases like a monthly subscription, Google will take around 25% from the final price/product, and for startups this is huge..

B). With APPC - App Store protocol: the developers will keep 85% of the final price which is really a big difference..

I don't want to give you the impression that I am a Google Play hater, certainly not. But for developers I really don't think that their fees are right. We also need to start considering other Android stores too.
So APPC - App Store protocol looks very promising, can't wait to see it up and running !

Good job APPC Team! Cheers.
