In my opinion the war against the ASICs is a war that is lost at the start.
Creating an algorithm with the requirements for mining is more difficult than optimizing an existing algorithm with an ASIC.
In all this the know-how of Bitmain continues to increase and for the asic resistant algorithms "it is like autumn leaves on the trees".
Given the times with which the new miners came out Bitmain managed to design more ASICs in parallel.
A possible brake could be given by cycling different algorithms every block, but systems would be created to divert the computational powers as soon as the mining passes to the algorithm that the hardware possesses
