Crypto Alchemy - Transforming Cryptocurrency Into Fiat

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago

This little beauty came in the mail yesterday.

I ordered it last week. They did ask for minimal identifying information, but only enough to ensure the card was sent to the correct address. And, for $10 USD, I judged the fee to be worth the convenience it will provide. (Plus, they have to make a profit somewhere...)

I know there are versions out there or just around the corner that will preserve anonymity. If necessary, I can look into those later.

I chose the Bitpay Visa Debit Card because I don't have to tie it to a bank account, but I can use it just like a regular Visa debit card. Bitcoin funds can be loaded directly onto the card from a variety of wallets. Personally, I use Exodus. I sent enough Bitcoin to equal a $1 USD transaction to make sure everything was working properly. So far, so good...

I will be doing some re-arranging of my current hodlings so I can increase the balance enough to try paying a bill with it. There are fees involved - just like any pre-paid card. I have to make sure I have sufficient funds to cover those as well. I'll let you know how that goes when I get there. Maybe at that point, the folks around me will stop looking at me like I've grown another head when I tell them crypto is real money. One can hope...

Happy 4th and Be Safe!

Good luck with the card. Apparently you aren't the only one with2 heads cause I get the same reaction. 🐓🐓

I was considering bitpay but wasn't brave enough to get one yet. You should do a review of it once you've used it for a while.

I've finally gotten a decent balance on it, so I hope to use it in the next couple days. I'm torn between putting it towards a bill or doing a mini-splurge on something. Maybe I'll do both. Lol!

Will definitely do a write up on how it goes. And you can do this. Easy!

Have been wondering when this would happen. Would like to heat more . Thanks 🐓🐓

Hi @aunt-deb. Interesting. I will have to have a look at this card. Are the fees high?

It's $10 usd upfront and then it depends on how you're using it. This is the chart from their site:

https://bitpay.com/card/resources/Fees.pdf

I'm going to go slow, do one transaction at a time & see what happens. The one thing to avoid is a 'not sufficient funds' - that's $15 usd per instance! Ouch!

I hoping to give it a test run today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed...

Thanks for the link. I'll be interested to see how you get on and what you think about it.

Hell yes. Thanks for pointing out bitpay. I have been using the codebase debit card (shift card)

You're welcome! It's always nice to have another tool handy when navigating crypto!

I get that same look.... It kinda makes me sad

It's frustrating at times, no doubt.

I try to remember that we're on the cutting edge (some say bleeding edge...lol) of this stuff. Most folks aren't open to the idea their hard-earned money might not be as safe as they'd thought. I sure was skeptical at first. It's going to take each person doing their own homework for them to 'get it'.

We'll see if this little bit of physical evidence is a good tool to introduce them to the crypto world.

You are big time now! I am still waiting for mine to come in the mail. You beat me to Exodus and the BitPay Card. I'm going to have to step up my game. If anyone ever tells you that you are not modern just bust that baby out and tell them you are light years ahead of them is the only reason you are not modern.

They come pretty quick - mine took 6 days. 'Course the holiday will delay things a day, but still fast.

You can credit my early adoption of Exodus to @barrydutton. He gave me several to check out and Exodus won hands down.

You helped inspire me to get the Bitpay Visa. Your story about the bank VP, plus my investment guy's attitude AND hubby's skepticism all went in to that decision. I think I'm going to try a pay a bill with it and document - with printouts - the whole transaction. Ha!

And last, that GIF is a hoot 'n half! I'm sooooo stealing it. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this post. I am on my way to getting one of these cards my self. I have the app on my phone already. How long did it take to come in the mail?

Not trying to tell you what to do, but I think you and my daughter @justsailey would get along. She is a groomer and dog person. Happy 4th!

Awesome and thanks... I'll check her posts!

You're welcome and I think you'll like it! It took about 6 business days. That's quicker than they estimated and they beat the delay the holiday will cause. I'm impressed.

Cool. I better get on it then. Thanks for the reply.
