Everyone says B2X (SegWit2x) is a scam and it is. BUT, you can still claim free B2X and get a little bit of money for it. If you have even a small amount of Bitcoin (BTC) you can get free money with minimal work.
Here is the process I have figured out. I have done this a few times already:
NOTE: The B2X guys will not help you much with this.
Phase 1:
- Download the wallet from http://b2x-segwit.io/ (Official Wallet close to top)
- Clear out 200GB or so on a drive. You literally need to sync the entire blockchain to use this wallet. It's the dumbest design I have ever seen.
- Unpack the .zip and run bitcoin2x-qt.exe (this is the GUI application, no clue what the other .exe files do... sketchy)
- It will begin syncing, plan to leave your machine on for two to four days... yes that's how long this thing could take. I have an i7 chip with solid state drives and a 150MB connection. Took forever.
- It will get stuck somewhere around 98% for maybe 4-10 hours. It will appear to not be doing anything. Just leave it, it will magically finish. The hourly percentage will fluctuate around quite a bit from 0.01% to around 7%. I think this may be due to the quantity of peers available in the syncing. I am leaving my system on and networked to keep another copy available. No clue if this helps but I am currently keeping my blockchain synced up for claiming B2X wallets.
Phase 2 (After Sync):
- Register for http://exrates.me. It's the only exchange taking deposits. It has the worst sell price as well but HitBTC is not taking B2X deposits so you are stuck selling on Exrates... the exchange sucks and has lots of fees but hey, free money
- Go back to your wallet (run bitcoin2x-qt.exe)
- Select "Help" along the top
- Select "Debug Window"
- Select "Console"
- Next to the > input box type importprivkey yourprivatekey (replace yourprivatekey with your actual private key)
- Wait for about an hour as it "rescans"
- Send the balance just like a normal BTC transaction to your deposit wallet on Exrates (you have to use a Gmail type address. It didn't seem to like my redirect throwaway address. You need to get a full registration email before doing anything), sell as per usual (I will not detail this process assuming you are all at least somewhat familiar with the whole exchange process).
Thanks guys! This process worked for me. Get that free money. NOTE: Always make sure you have moved your BTC balance out of the address you are claiming the B2X with. Replay attacks are a thing.
