TREZOR Model T UNBOXING & FIRST IMPRESSION
Hi CryptoLand,
Trezor has updated the original Trezor One, which still remains one of the best-sellers choice for cryptocurrency hardware wallets. No matter your knowledge in the space, safeguarding your coins should always be your first priority.
I wanted a safe place to store my cryptocurrencies after experiencing a few scams and cryptocurrency exchange hacks. In looking for a long-term solution, I discovered the Trezor One.
Trezor announced in November 2017, its successor the Model T for pre-order; which the first batch sold out near instantly. Luckily, they announce a few additional batches and I was fortunate enough to pre-order one in their final batch four, with an estimated shipping date of January 2018. The Model T total cost landed was $173 Euros, approx $214 USD.
The Trezor One however, still works perfectly for what you may need today with support for most popular coins. Reading through comments and forums, some say the new Model T may be unnecessary with the minor upgrades. The price is another factor to consider when compared to the Ledger and Keepkey hardware wallets; which cost under $100 USD.
Regardless, I felt the Model T would be a choice for hardware wallet to have and in preparation for any future software or cryptocurrency updates.
With a few shipping delays; It's late March and finally here.
Here’s an video unboxing and my first impression. If you’re considering a Trezor Model T, please watch this video for what to expect.
Note: Always buy your cryptocurrency hardware wallet directly from the manufacturer or authorized dealer.
What's in the box.
The Model T comes in a beautiful box with a clear window imprinted with an inscription “The safe place for your coins.
Inside the box::
1x Trezor Model T
1x USB-C cable
1x Magnet Dock
2x Recovery Seed Cards
1x User Manual
4x Stickers
First Impressions
This is the first time seeing a cryptocurrency hardware wallet in person.
The Model T appears smaller in-hand than I first imagined; but with great balanced weight and a durable feel.
I especially love the magnetic dock included which allows you to quickly attach it to nearly any surface. This can come in handy for quick access if you leave it under the desk or in other various hidden areas.
Have a cryptocurrency hardware wallet in your hand gives you a sense of power, knowing you can safely store away your cryptocurrencies away from hackers.
Keep in mind to always check the holographic security seal on the device, to make sure it was not tampered with before arriving to you.
The Model T comes with no firmware for added security. To start using your new Model T, simply follow the helpful guide printed on the inside cover of the box.
Conclusion
Is the new Trezor Model T worth the upgrade over the orginal Trezor One, yes and no. For existing users of the original Trezor One, they may not need an upgrade. For them, the removing off buttons and adding a color touch screen may not be a useful enough upgrade to just have .
However, for newer users to the space like me, it’s an incredible first start. The Trezor One now seems outdated and with the Model T, it seems the most logical step in improving their line of cryptocurrency hardware wallets.
I’m truly happy I bought one and hope you will be too.
With additional feature like expanded encrypted storage and two-step verification, its clear Trezor wants this to be more than just a long-term storage device.
As of this post the Model T is still yet to be officially release and sold on Trezor’s website https://trezor.io/.
