How BURST's Community Is Holding It Back
What is BURST?
By now, we've all heard of BURST. The green cryptocurrency, touting low power usage and a PoC protocol, is nothing short of revolutionary. The way BURST is mined is by using your hard drive. With a decently sized HDD and around 1KWh you can start mining BURST today. This type of mining is called Proof of Capacity (or PoC).
On 12/27 they released their whitepaper - The Burst Dymaxion. The Dymaxion is a "tangle-based lightning network that implements layers to the Burst network in the form of payment channels." I wont be getting in to specifics, you can read their whitepaper here.
They are saying that it has three core objectives: Scalability, Energy Efficiency, and Anonymity.
So, we have a great coin with solid ideas behind it that addresses and attempts to solve issues of current Blockchain technology. Amazing.
Who is BURST?
The team listed on the main website shows a list of professional and skilled team members who have made many contributions to BURST as a whole. However, diving deeper into the BURST community you will find that there are other prominent members of the BURST community who can be seen as controversial.
You will find 2 main community forums, one is listed on their website and the other can only be found by using a google search. These are Burst Forum and Burst Nation.
Burst Forum, which is listed on the forums page of the BURST company website, is a very thriving and active community with many new members.
Burst Nation, however, is a much slower paced forum with most of its posters being old school BURST miners and the like.
Recently, a man who guys by the name Mister Burst(prominent member of the BURST community), posted this thread on Burst Nation:
Here is the video that was posted:
Note: In the video, he gets called a white supremecist and doesn't deny it.
Here is a thread on the forum that Mister Burst is trying to expose regarding the situation:
"Haitch" is one of the members mentioned in Mister Bursts video.
What does this all mean? Why should I care?
Basically, this was all taken from the first pages of these forums. This means that anyone looking to buy BURST who researches it first, well, this is all they see. A bunch of grown ups fighting with each other over the internet. Big egos of long time community members. Accusations of malicious activity and DDoS attacks.
According to coinmarketcap BURST has a market cap of $115,219,588. This is important because there is a lot at stake here and a long way to fall. Are the people who are currently representing the community (The ones with well known names who are active on the forums-the Company's main way of reaching out to their miners and hodlers) doing their part to keep things professional? No. This is all about defamation of each others character. Making sure everybody knows what big bad thing so and so did. They are losing sight of BURST and choosing between two sides of the same coin.
What can be done?
They need to move on. This is all any newcomer to BURST will see when they go to the forums. No one likes internet drama except those participating in it. Focus on the product, and where the coin is going. Look ahead, towards the future and stop groveling about the past.
I see a bright future for BURST, and hopefully they can see it too.
