Newsworthy: Man-made islands to be created to evade cryptocurrency regulations. Hold my beer, I'm off to create my own country!steemCreated with Sketch.

Hi fellow Steemians!

Startups BlueFrontiers and Seasteading are said to be creating man-made islands that will support 300 homes and have their own forms of government and currency.

The islands are being created in the Polynesian area to evade strict government regulations surrounding cryptocurrencies.

They've also launched an ICO, Varyon (VAR) to raise capital and apparently will only accept VAR for products and services on the islands.

It's an interesting idea but one that will definitely be controversial. Maybe cryptocurrency is just an excuse for these companies to create their own kingdom...

This reminds me of New Zealanders who created an island to avoid a ban on drinking in public places on New Year's Eve. By law, you can't drink in public places in NZ and these guys had built an 'artificial island' on international waters to avoid the law. Amazing right?

Anyway, it'll be very interesting to see what obstacle these two startups face when they start building the islands.

Some people (me) can only watch the world move forward while eating chips.

I wonder if I just showed up there seeking political asylum would they take me? lol
Im here to defect from America.

Oh yea go for it!

Wow, like popup independent states. I'd probably look into something like this if I had the opportunity to do it, but currently I don't.

It definitely is an ambitious project!

That's true, but the kind of people involved (imo) are the kind of people who could accomplish such a thing. I've been envisioning something of the sort (not necessarily on the ocean) for a long time. Doing it as 'an island' is a very symbolic and practical improvement. I'm not sure this project will succeed, but I think something like it will.
Imagine lightweight floating 'islands', above the clouds, covered in efficient solar panels, never having to touch down, supplied by drones, paid for with cryptocurrencies. No countries needed anymore, you're miles above them. Or park yourself over the middle of the ocean. There's so much room on the surface, but even MORE if we think 3 dimensionally. It's not a far off concept at all.

Absolutely agree and it is very symbolic. I'd like to see how the existing main players, like Asia, US, etc in the industry react to this. If it succeeds, then they may lose existing customers who might want to move their businesses to an island as well.

Sign me up! I'd grow a island for sure!

I'd build an island for sure. How hard could it be??? :)
