If you’re reading this right now the likelihood is you are using a WiFi connection to access the internet. Perhaps you are at a home using the WiFi you pay for or a public connection at a cafe or restaurant.

Having a home WiFi connection is quite expensive and the range of the WiFi can actually extend well beyond just your house.

So enter World Wifi who will be providing a new system whereby the owners of private routers will be able to provide free internet access to people in the vicinity through the power of the blockchain. They can earn cryptocurrency for providing this service, which comes from advertisers who will pay to advertise to the people who are signing up to the free internet service.

The World Wifi Concept

Through the World Wi-Fi concept, everyone should win. The people who have routers will be able to generate revenue for sharing their resource, others will get free internet, and advertisers will be able to target a new audience.

The Team behind World Wi-fi already have businesses up and running around internet provision in public areas. They operate Radius Wi-fi, which is a hotspot company and Adrenta, an advertising agency focused on Wi-Fi advertising. They already operate over 14,000 open networks in 80 countries and have over 100 franchise partners. Their Wi-Fi access points grew by 784% in 2017, so this is a fast-growing company.

How It Will Work

How the system will work is that owners of routers will be able to install World Wi-Fi’s firmware, which will create an open network and separate this out from their private Wi-Fi connection.

Guest users can then access this new open network. They will just be prompted to watch a short advertising video when connecting to the network. The owner of the router gets paid in World Wi-Fi’s token — the WeToken (WT)— for advertising that is viewed on their network.

One WeToken will be paid for every 10 ad impressions on the World Wi-Fi network. During the token sale, each WeToken will be priced at $0.10.

They state that the average market value of 10 ad impressions on Wi-Fi networks is currently $0.30, meaning that WeTokens are priced at a significant discount to the going market rate and giving potential for growth. This should also mean the platform is attractive for advertisers to use, presuming there is good take-up of it from users of course.

Roadmap

The roadmap for the World Wi-Fi project is quite developed, with alpha testing of the platform already underway. Here are the other major milestones on the roadmap going forward:

April 2018: Beta testing of the World Wi-Fi platform
May — June 2018: Launch of the World Wi-Fi platform, routers and advertisers invited to join
June 2018: Listing of WeToken on major exchanges
August 2018—March 2019: Launch of mobile device application.
So as you can see, things should be ready to launch very soon, with the possibility to make some money from your Wi-Fi router.

ICO Details

The WT pre-sale is already underway and ends on 18th April 2018. Here are the main details of the ICO to watch out for:

The concept sounds a lot like DENT, which I also like a lot. I'll look in to this. Thanks for the post!

No worries, yeah looks like an interesting concept. As long as wifi providers are happy to sign up then it should do well.

Hey @cryptodan21, the markets are pretty crazy right now. Crypto is back to a weird space but I know long term it's still what we're all hoping it will be! Cheers

Yeah I know what you mean exxodus, it's been a very tough start to the year. Hopefully things will pick up soon!
