I ALWAYS get the question.
I'm putting the information together for you on one simple easy to follow post, This is intended for complete beginners and if interest is there for a more advanced trading post then please leave a comment below requesting one.
The First thing you want to do.. sign up for coin base (referal link below)

They also have a mobile version for IOS (and I would assume android)
- Make an account on Coinbase.
- Decide whether you want to add your Credit card info or Bank account info and update either or both.
- Decide whether you want to buy BTC, ETH, or LTC ( if you're going to be buying "altcoins" I recommend BTC)
- After your account is verified purchase your coin. This whole process can take a day to a week so be patient, but your price is locked in when you purchase the coin.
(I recommend with this time you get familiar with our next site)

IF YOU ONLY WANT BTC, ETH, OR LTC you need not go further.
IF you want to get into other crypto currencys "Altcoins" lets get signed up on Poloniex

You could use other exchanges like bittrex or kraken or cryptopia or blue, ect
Once your coinbase transaction is complete (ie you now own BTC ETH or LTC) and you have signed up for poloniex we can transfer our funds to poloniex. For this example i will be using BTC.
We want to send the BTC from our coin base wallet to our poloniex wallet. To do this open up your poloniex accout
(pictures below)
- In the upper right corner Click on Balances
- Click on Deposits and withdrawls from the drop down
- Look For BTC in the list
- CLICK DEPOSIT AND DOUBLE CHECK YOU ARE ON BTC (or the currency you are Depositing)
- Copy YOUR Bitcoin deposit address.. (TRIPPLE CHECK YOU ARE ON BTC!)
WARNING IF YOU SEND IT TO THE WRONG ADDRESS IT WILL BE LOST FOREVER!!!

Lets open up our coinbase and Click on the SEND/Request tab at the top
paste your poloniex bitcoin deposit address in the recipient field
then select how much you want to send
Then do a final check before sending
sorry i have to stress the importance of double checking redundantly
SEND your funds. Its never a bad idea to do a test send of a smaller portion at first, just beware of fees.
So now we sent our BTC from our coinbase wallet to our poloniex wallet...and we wait
and denn
when it shows up, In the balances (deposits/withdrawls) tab, under BTC you're finally ready to buy"altcoins".
Lets click on the BTC market tab (see Red arrow on image below) and find a coin we'd like to buy..
I thought it would be fitting to look at STEEM
you'll notice in the image below
- The Top red arrow will show you how much BTC you currently have available.
( I have .016 in this acct) - The price (top blue arrow) is determined by the sell orders available but you are able to place it at any price you wish.
- The second Blue arrow is the top Sell order (ie the lowest price available for purchase). Poloniex will do the math for you and you can fill out either how many STEEM you want to buy or what BTC price you want to spend. Clicking on how much BTC you have (the top red arrow) will select all of your BTC. This is what is shown in the image.
Click BUY and BOOM goes the friggen dynamite.
