Unforeseen Consequences - the Monaize dICO.

In the game Half-Life, one of the early chapters is called Unforeseen Consequences. This is in reference to the stage of the game that accidentally rips time and space apart and allows the aliens through. It got real bad, real fast. The scientists had no way of knowing that what they were about to do could potentially destroy the earth. Maybe if they had a way to test for that kind of thing they would have realized what they were about to do, but they didn't, so we had to play as Gordon Freeman and save the world with a crowbar.

During the recent days leading up to the Monaize dICO, the dICO app was put to the test. Now, the purpose of the test in this context was to evaluate its performance. A flaw was found. It doesn't matter what kind of flaw, it just matters that the developers found a problem with it. Even though it failed the test, this is a good thing.

They took the very unpopular but logical decision to delay the dICO. Then people started complaining. It's understandable to a degree, but the very nature of a test is to determine if something passes or fails. This failed. Now, Komodo Platform, SuperNet and Monaize are working to fix it and the latest news is promising. The countdown will recommence soon and all will be well.

Had they not tested the app, who knows what could have happened. The failure could have lead to something I call brand-annihilation. In other words the failure could have been so catastrophic that it would have been impossible to recover from. They only get one shot at this and they need to get it right.

In this day and age, with real money on the line, I do not want to be Gordon Freeman trying to manage my crypto portfolio with a crowbar. Cut them some slack, and the next time a project is delayed due to something like this, take a moment to appreciate the developer that is smart enough to do the right thing.
