In a recent blog post by Coinbase, they have announced their confirmation requirements have now changed. The popular crypto exchange has made these changes for four different currencies, including Bitcoin, Litecoin, Zcash, and Ethereum Classic.
Coinbase has always had strict confirmation requirements for the mentioned cryptocurrencies above, which meant they did not have a good enough approach to informing users of each coin’s confirmation requirement. This has now changed with the introduction of changing their required confirmations.
Some of the currencies that have now changed had a higher number of confirmation requirements than necessary Coinbase has stated, while Litecoin’s confirmations have increased from 6 to 12.
Coinbase always had 6 confirmations for Bitcoin, but now they have made it 3. Ethereum Classic was 5676 required confirmations, and now it has been reduced to 3527, and finally Zcash has been changed from 18 to 12.
All these changes mean is when you deposit BTC, ETC, or ZEC, the process will be much quicker, while LTC may take a little longer as the confirmation requirement increased. These changes were put in place for security reasons as Coinbase believes it will reduce the risk of attack vectors such as the infamous 51% attack.
Coinbase is always making efforts to ensure a good customer experience while keeping their security standards at an all-time high, therefore that means necessary updates such as this need to happen regularly.
