UPS & Bitcoin

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago  (edited)

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) released information on an application filed by UPS regarding their locker bank to accept bitcoin as a form of payment. A locker bank is another way of saying a safe deposit locker which is offered by banks. People and businesses pay to rent of the locker in advance for the financial year. The statement is as follows:

“In example embodiments, the locker bank may include a point-of-sale (POS) system for accepting payment from users in the form of: (1) a cash transaction; (2) a credit or debit card transaction; (3) a gift certificate; (4) an electronic payment, such as payment by Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal, Bitcoin; and/or (5) any other suitable type of payment.”

This could very well be an indicator that bitcoin is being taken seriously by major business. Regardless of all of the FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) spread by government, there seems to be interest. It may only be a matter of time before mass adoption.

Let me know what you think about this news and your predictions for the future of cryptocurrrency.

hell yeah! this is pretty awesome hahah

I agree, it is great news! It is only a matter of time until mass adoption. One block, and one company at a time. Thank you for your comment!

Wait a second...does this mean that UPS is getting into the crypto payment business? As in they're going to let people/businesses receive payments via crypto?

yes, in their application to the USPTO they requested permission to accept bitcoin as a form of payment.

If they accept other coins as well, this could be HUGE for crypto. It might mean being able to use crypto in a lot more places.

But, if they only accept bitcoin, it's not that great, as the fees are still pretty high.

I agree. I feel that this is only the beginning. People will complain about the high fees and UPS will have no choice but to adopt another form of crypto. As much as I am opposed to Ripple (XRP) that may be an option only because of their test network with MoneyGram, but I think even Litecoin would be an even better option. Your thoughts?

Also, I read an article today that Ebay is dropping PayPal as a partner. Could this be another possible opportunity for the blockchain? I will have to keep my eyes open for further news on this.

Wow! That's really surprising, since they used to own them.

I would say the most likely candidates are LTC and ETH.

There's also Cardano, and Stellar.

If they only plan on accepting Bitcoin, I feel like they probably don't understand crypto, and are just doing this because it's trending or some such.

I also doubt they will care unless a ton of people complain about them only accepting bitcoin.

They recently parted ways (Ebay and Paypal ) link to article can be found on http://amp.usatoday.com/amp/1085940001?_twitter_impression=true. I would also prefer cardano or stellar. Good call. And it may be hype due to bitcoins popularity but people are not going to want to pay such high fees because it is not good for business. Hope they look more into this transition.
