When you are studying or in a new field, there are new terms you have to be familier with, else you will be lost. Same goes for those entering the cryptocurrency sphere. The more you update you vocab of words, the more you improve your chances of not falling to the twist and turns of the cryptocurrency game.

Therefore, I decided to put together a list of 14 Cryptocurrency Slangs that can help you in your quest as a crypto investor.

  1. HODL. A crypto investor who buys a coin and does not see himself selling in the foreseeable future is called a hodler of the coin.

  2. FOMO. Means fear of missing out. The feeling that swells in you when you see a huge green candlestick on a chart and you don’t own that coin, you sell other coin you own to buy this new coin that is going up. Be aware that FOMO can wreck your investment since it is drivwen by emotion

  3. FUD.Means Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. Example: JPMorgan’s Dimon spread FUD by saying Bitcoin is a fraud that will eventually blow up. Or John McAfee is spreading FUD about verge etc

  4. Pump and Dump. The recurring cycle of an Altcoin getting a spike in price followed by a huge crash. Such movements are often attributed to low volume, hence the ‘pump’. Traders who pump, buying huge volumes, may wish to invoke FOMO from the uninformed investors and then dump, or sell, their coins at a higher price.

  5. ATH. Means All-Time High. Therefore it means the highest historical price of a specific coin.

  6. Whale. Means a huge player who has a substantial amount of capital. Whales are often the market movers for small alt-coins too due to their huge capital.

  7. Shill. The act of endorsing a coin in public. Just because you bought the coin and have an interest in shilling the coin, in hopes of igniting the public’s interest in that particular coin.

  8. Bag Holder. An investor who bought in at a high and missed his opportunity to sell, leaving him with worthless coins.

  9. Circulating Supply. Tthe price of a coin, when multiplied by the circulating supply, gives the coin’s market cap.

  10. Market Cap. In the cryptocurrency market, the market cap is used to illustrate a coin’s dominance in the entire cryptocurrency market.

  11. Arbitrage. The act of buying and selling on different exchanges to earn the difference in the spread.

  12. BTFD. Means Buy The Fucking Dip – When people are running around and selling because of fear, this is the time to buy.

  13. Moon. Extreme bullish movement of a coin.

14.Weak Hands. Those who cannot be patient and sell at loss when the market is down.
