The first Bitcoin ATM in Norway!

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago  (edited)

Great news for Norwegian crypto-enthusiasts, Norway acquired its first Btm (Bitcoin ATM).Currently there is only one BTM, located at the co working space ''The hub'' which is at Alexander Kiellands plass in Oslo (Google maps here). The company behind the project is called Mikrobank and the people behind it plan to have more BTM's in Norway in the course of 2017.
For the time being it is possible to buy cryptocurrency but not sell back, although according to the Mikrobank folks that option will be available probably within the year, apparently there is a dialog going on between them and the tax authorities of Norway.

The BTM.On the upper right corner of the touch screen stand the exchange rates.

It's interesting to note that one can buy also altcoins from the btm (Litecoin for now, maybe more options in the future).Keep in mind that you''ll need cash in hand to buy the cryptocurrency of your choice (200 nok and 500 nok banknotes are accepted).
No registration is required.

Buying 200 nok worth of bitcoin will bring 189.5 nok of actual bitcoin in your wallet.
That means the fees are around 5,25 %.
The process of purchasing Bitcoin is pretty straight forward, tap you language and cryptocurrency choice on the touch screen, have your QR code scanned, put in the banknotes, click buy/done and that's it.Here is a video of an identical BTM in use:

The whole process takes less than a minute

Will we see an increased Bitcoin acceptance in Norwegian and Scandinavian businesses ?
Will the Bitcoin become more known with the help of BTM's ? That remains to be seen.
I would definitely hope to see more BTM's in popular places like malls, transport hubs, airports etc.
Hopefully 2017 will be an exciting and important year in the mainstream acceptance concept.

Have you ever used a BTM ? Whats is your opinion on the whole concept ?

The opening hours of the Btm location, according to the Mikrobank website is 07:00-22:00 on weekdays and 07:00-20:00 on saturdays, although those hours depend on the working hours of 'the hub'.

Surprised it took that long, the Scandinavians tend to be ahead of the rest. Prices is Norway though.. buy a coffee with half a bitcoin lol

Regulations take time to navigate, it seems.

Great news: That made my day!

Make sure to spread the news!

It's good that more and more bitcoin ATM´s are in the world every day. I wonder when this technology will come to South America. I hope it's soon

They do have them in Panama.

This is great news! I have upvoted and resteemed. I will mention it on a show of mine soon.

Thanks for the upvote & resteem @bitcoinmeister ! is your show on steemit/youtube ?

Mention the ATM it here:

My show is one of the biggest and most popular crypto shows on Youtube and I post it to my steemit page @bitcoinmeister also so check it out there and at disruptmeister.com

Read & Upvoted - Thanks.

Thank you for this info! I was fearing that these things would not be available in Norway as quickly as this (because people are way too comfortable with the kroner and the payment options around it)

Thanks for resteeming. Yeah, it was about time we got some more crypto-options in Norway.

that's exiting

Yeap, definitely a step towards the right direction.

I totally forgot when I originally read this that this is near a cafe that takes Bitcoin. It's related to The Hub and share the same name. It's like one of the few if only public establishments that takes Bitcoin in Oslo (at least from what I remember from coinmap.org). This is all near the trendy neighborhood in Oslo, probably a five minute walk away from it.

I think the Btm is going to be relocated a few meters in the short term future so as to be acceptable to all the people visiting the Alexanders Kiellands plass mini-mall.

Nice:) Fuck kroner & øre. I plan on going all crypto! If you have a Xapo credit card you will not even need a Bitcoin ATM you can just use a normal ATM or pay in stores.

Interesting, is the Xapo credit card available in Europe/Norway ?

You can use it in Norway but it will be quite expensive, 3 % exchange rate. But you can use it everywhere. If your in Europe and chose euro I think it is much cheaper.

Thanks for the info. Bitcoin credit cards,BTMs - it is certainly good to have options!

That was fast ☺️

What a great proposal indeed that you can see the enthusiasm for the Norwegians that bitcoins are accepted, because not only did I see that project, I am also discovering that a page like Bitcoin Equaliser is delivering demo accounts with a few bitcoins so that some people can learn to invest and above all that this type of payments or modern currencies is accepted more.
