Last week I received my first universal basic income payment of 65 Manna (currently worth about USD $1.20) from the People's Currency Foundation.
Now this may not sound like much, but given that:
Only 62 people own more than half the wealth in the world today, while almost half the human population – over three billion people – are living on less than $2.50 a day. At least 80% of the world’s people live on less than $10 per day - http://www.globalissues.org/article/26/poverty-facts-and-stats (see Whitepaper p-4)
this has the potential, as it grows, to make a real difference for those who need it most.
Manna rocks.
Coming from the position that having an income is a universal human right (and I love anything that speaks the language of universal human rights) the People's Currency Foundation is on "a philanthropic mission to create a more equitable and sustainable world economy" (Whitepaper p-13).
From a recent email to me:
The Manna team is pleased to announce that the first distribution of Manna Universal Basic Income on Mannabase.com was a success!
11,490 people received UBI
3,938 people received referral bonuses
UBI distributed on March 1: 335,989.074810 manna
Bonuses distributed on March 1: 252,430.437846 manna
Value of manna distributed on March 1: About $10,000, according to the market price of Manna at the time of distribution.
What I really like about this crypto is that it is geared towards those who need it most, and is ambitious. It wants countries to sign-up their entire populations - including kids. It wants nations to hold manna as part of their long term financial strategies.
But even better is the philanthropic side of the operations for those of us who live in places like Australia and earn well above $2.50 a day. We can use the site to give to the people we want in the places we choose. This is cool. More power to the People's Currency Foundation!
Feel like jumping on board? Check it out here: https://www.mannabase.com/?ref=3ac18f2d78 (and just so you know, this is a referral link. You'll get one to when you sign up - another way to earn Manna).
Like all cryptos, it may not work out in the long run. But I really hope it does.

The vision of Mannabase is to empower the humans of the world through making cryptocurrency accessible and available to everyone, and to offer a device for effective altruism to lessen poverty and inequality.

I tend to agree with the premises behind the need for UBI, but I also believe that it leaves other problems unsolved, such as how to allocate that money to effectively serve the needs of one's larger community.
I just posted a proposal for a blockchain app that allows neighborhoods to allocate municipal bonds in the form of crypto to each resident in the community, who then create and vote on proposals for neighborhood improvement projects (the winning proposal would then use the crypto to execute the project, sort of like GoFundMe). I would love your input and feedback since I have no idea what I am doing but I believe blockchain will be the future of community building.
