I've been trading about 6 months, have done a lot of research and taken a few courses. I had this question after making a few bad trades... 'but I thought that was a rising wedge? why did it break out?' There is actually an ascending wedge AND an ascending triangle. One is bullish, one is bearish.
Ascending Wedge - Bearish - top and bottom lines are angled up (or down in a downtrend)
Ascending Triangle - Bullish - the bottom line is angled up but the top line is rather horizontal or tilted slightly downward
This one eluded me quite awhile. I thought they were 2 names of the same thing.
Here is a great article explaining the difference between the 2 in detail https://stockcharts.com/articles/decisionpoint/2015/04/whats-the-difference-between-an-ascending-wedge-and-an-ascending-triangle.html
Happy trading!
