Good question fred. I think Ripple is definiatey worthy of consideration but being tied to Wallstreet, banks and credit providers could be a really good thing or a really bad thing I think. My concern is how well Ripple would do during a global economic crisis and credit freeze similar to the 2008 crisis or worse. I'm of the opinion that an event like this is not far off in the future and I think that Ripple is more exposed to this kind of risk than the other cryptocurrencies. In addition to that these institutions have a history of being rather untrustworthy. Would be keen to hear anyone else's thoughts on this for sure :)

Agree. I like ripple but only for short term. Great idea, great start up. Their BIG problem is when the bankers decide to DIY & ripple gets dumped in favor of "in-house" systems.
How long that would take I'm not sure.
Steem is also under 'attack' by competitors, and while steemit has a good start, the questio is how well they can manage growth. So far not looking that good IMHO. (based on reports of churn ratio of new users)
