Fiatless World How I See It

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago  (edited)

I see a lot of articles on Steemit based on the coming economic collapse and the demise of fiat currency, in fact many are gleefully waiting for this to happen. Most of these articles present the concept of investing any money you have in assets such as gold or silver or in cryptocurrency, as supposedly these are the safest bets.

Now let’s say an economic collapse does happen, and fiat currency becomes valueless, it is useless nothing can be done with it, anarchists should like this because the government as we know it would disappear, because who is going to work for the government if the government has nothing to pay with? Unfortunately, the same can be said for private enterprise who is going to work at Walmart if Walmart doesn’t have anything to pay you with? What will happen, first in the cities, is that we will have chaos, riots, people looting anything they can get hold of, especially if it is food. How can this happen you say, remember there is no money, so I don’t think there will be policemen or even soldiers to prevent this chaos, if you ask me they will probably be heading it, as they are well trained and will have more weapons than anyone else. And all other things like utilities, internet, everything will just stop, no money.

Then this will spread to the rural areas, everything will stop working, mechanized farms will be paralyzed, because what fuel are they going to use for their machines? So food production will be at least reduced, and you won’t be able to move it, no transportation available and even if there were, wouldn’t the driver just steal the product?

That’s what I see in this crisis, and the worst thing is if the dollar fails, that will include the economies of at least the whole American continent because the currencies of every country in North, Central and South America depend on the dollar. I imagine this would terribly affect every other part of the world also.

Now let’s get to the crypocurrency and gold aspect, the most important resource in a scenario such as this will be food, and I don’t believe that anyone is going to change food for a Bitcoin and anyway how are you going to use it in this world that will hardly be connected, or for gold or silver their value will be nothing in a world like this, so to me investing in these things if you expect an economic apocalypse is in fact kind of useless. So many people say that is why I am getting out of the grid and setting up my own homestead with sun power and 3 years worth of dehydrated food, and I’m going to be living a great life while the rest of the world is fighting over food. Well I think that is also naive, the only thing doing this in a world crisis will do for you is to mark you as a target, you can expect at any time some very unwelcome visitors.

So I personally do not want an economic collapse, I don’t need fiat currency to disappear, and in fact I find it kind of hypocritical that many of the people who appear to have this dream of a fiatless world and telling us to invest in Crypto are the ones constantly powering down and taking their Steem out and changing it for fiat, and showing us how great they are living thanks to Steem.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Crypto world especially Steem, but I don't see a world in which you can replace fiat currency with a concept such as crypto whose market cap is at most 100 billion and has such a marked volatility, yes it is great to be able to have an alternative and be able to have extra cash by just working at home on your computer but change the financial system? I really don't think so.

Cryptos are the savers of the nightmare you depict; cryptos are money. What you describe will be more likely, if cryptos do not become mainstream. My greatest fear is that the establishment will find a way to stop people from adopting the blockchain.

I seriously doubt it, but we shall see.

I don’t believe that anyone is going to change food for a Bitcoin

.

Yeah, but where are they going to get the food to sell for that bitcoin?

that's a separate question.

by the way.
In the last two months.
I've bought a lot of tools and building material (wood)
some booze and beer
cigars
night out with friends and family
a boat complete with trailer
paid for the hauling to a storage facilty
paid the rent on the apartment I live in
AND the storage facilty rent.
all with crypto-monies.

so..
what was your question?

I guess this is the answer:"yes it is great to be able to have an alternative and be able to have extra cash by just working at home on your computer but change the financial system? I really don't think so."

Well thought out article @gduran. I think we're a long way off adopting crypto as a mainstream currency, but the banks in the developed world are already climbing onto blockchain technology for other benefits, such as contracts and international currency transfers, to cut costs and improve efficiencies. Fiat currency is on its way out, but very slowly, and will take a very ling time to completely die off. Most transactions are done with bank cards (cashless), but it would take a total revolution to decentralize currency and adopt crypto. The banks (and government) would do everything in the power to either stop it, or take control of it. If and when it happens we will have a one-world-currency and a one-world-government. Then we are all doomed.... where is my tinfoil hat!!
