Today's lesson is Android CPU Mining. If you are reading this, there is a good chance you are already earning the cryptocurrencies Steem and Steem Dollars(SBD). Now you have a chance to earn another cryptocurrency called Gridcoin.

CPU mining on an Android device is cheap! Whether you have an Android phone or a tablet, you can use that device to mine Gridcoin. You won't get rich, but you can earn a little bit of Gridcoin and in the process you will be advancing scientific research at the same time. That's right, mining Gridcoin allows your device to become part of a large distributed super computer used to perform calculations for different Science Projects such as curing cancer, searching for extraterrestrial life and mapping the stars.

Since an Android device won't earn you a lot of Gridcoin, we will be showing you how to set up mining through GRCPool. Go ahead and follow the link to create an account. The next step is to use the Android Play Store to install the BOINC app on your device. At this point it get's a little complicated so I will show you how to proceed using the following guide created by GRCPool's admin.

You can find a list of projects here that you can earn Gridcoin with. Not all boinc projects are supported by Gridcoin, so check the list before choosing a project. My personal favorite is World Community Grid. This project allows you to work on medical research projects that could one day cure cancer or AIDS or many other illnesses.

The final step is to get a wallet address to deposit your newly mined Gridcoin. This can either be through an exchange that trades Gridcoin such as Bittrex or Poloniex, or by installing the Gridcoin Wallet client on the platform of your choice. You can find the wallet for all supported platforms here.

Congratulations, you are now mining Gridcoin and supporting science.

Until next time...

Great post, thanks for sharing. Which currency is better to mine right now?

Depends on your equipment.

Got Gridcoin mining on my phone now. I'll let you know when I get some coins.

Good luck, I hope you get a lot of them.

Like the guide, I'm going to give it a go and get some gridcoin.

@gregory-f I love this thread of yours. It's really for the dummies.

Cool series of posts @gregory-f. I'm buying a GTX 1060 6GB tomorrow (hopefully) and can't wait to test it out. I've been mining on Minergate.com with my ancient GTX 450 for a few months and it's taken forever to mine anything except Bytecoin.

Gridcoin is also very cool. I've got an Android tablet and a laptop mining that but it's oh so slow...

Keep the great posts coming and thanks for doing the Mining for Dummies series!

1060 is a great card from what I've read. What coins are you going to try mining with it?

The reviews I've seen look good and it's the best in my budget range. I'd love a 1080 but in South Africa that's about double the price of a 1060.

I'm definitely going to see how it does on Gridcoin and then look at ZCash and maybe Aeon as well. My CPU hasn't done too bad on Aeon so I think it's worth investigating

Well written and very helpful

Thank you, I'm glad you found it useful.

Nice one @ gregory. I will give it a try and i want to ask the amount of $1 to Gridcoin. Thanks

I believe it is about 33 Gridcoin per $1.

@gregory i have gone through the process as you instructed and i'm about to mine on my Andriod phone but i'm not here for fun games but business so can you tell me the best device that i can use to mine Gridcoin? Thanks

The best device would be a top of the line GPU, but mining with those were covered in previous posts.

Ok, i already followed you and can i find the information from your previous post?

The top of this page has three links to the posts covering GPU mining and one link about CPU mining on Windows. I hope they can be of some help to you.

@gregory-f thanks for the information, i have seen the link and i am trying the procedures on windows 7. Thanks a lot

Already tested to mine in a phone, just for fun, but it's extremely slow. Still not tested that GridCoin you are taking about.

Gridcoin is unique, you aren't wasting energy on hashing, so Gridcoin doesn't really compare to your earlier mining experiences.
Still a single phone won't get you a lot, I have 3 phones 2 Raspberry Pis an old laptop and a PC and together they do well.

Good luck with it.

@gregory-f,
CPU mining again! This is great I have 20 CPUs which can mine those coins! Friend this is unbelievable! Thanks for sharing such great tips with us!

Cheers~

With 20 CPUs you should be able to get a pretty good number of Gridcoin.

Great post @gregory-f didn't know you can mine on an android device too! But don't you think it could be a bit stressful on the device battery on the long term?

The Boinc app has a setting so that you can only mine when plugged in and/or only above a certain battery charge percent to keep you from draining your battery.

There is also a setting for battery temperature, I suggest setting that to 30C if you want to leave it on 24/7

Thanks guys, great advice ;)

now its time to try with my android device thanks for information and sharing.

Good luck with mining.

that's looks good thanks for sharing !!

Your welcome.

That is a great step you have taken buddy .giving knowledge about the mining go ahead buddy

Thank you.
