WHY IS SLOVENIA ONE OF THE HOTTEST COUNTRIES IN THE CRYPTOSPHERE RIGHT NOW?

Besides being the country where projects like Bitstamp, ICONOMI, Cofound.it, Viberate, Xaurum, SunContract, NiceHash and many other ones grew from, Slovenia is a green country with 2 million inhabitants located in the heart of Europe. It boasts with crystal clear lakes and rivers, high mountains and hills covered with lush forests (actually, more than 60% of land is covered in forest) and a well-packed diversity of different landscapes. It is also third in Europe regarding how many foreign languages does a person speak on average. Apparently the climate for cryptoeconomic growth in Slovenia has been more than suitable thus far in the (r)evolution we are seeing.

If you perform a Google Trends search with (basically) any crypto related topic, you can clearly see the picture of the climate worldwide. While some markets are larger, Slovenia is ranked among the top 5 countries worldwide regarding topics related to crypto google search terms.

Part of a speech by the Prime Minister dr. Miro Cerar at an event on 11th of October, 2017 named SLOVENIA’S CHALLENGES 2020: A vision for the development and regulation of blockchain technology in modern society:

Successful Slovenian companies in the field of the use of blockchain technology are already ranked among the world’s leading developers of digital investment platforms, and therefore we want to position Slovenia as the most recognised blockchain destination in the European Union, which will have established all of the infrastructure necessary for its implementation and development. The regulatory bodies and ministries are already studying blockchain, and the state is participating in activities at European level in the area of the introduction and regulation of this technology. We are also already laying the foundations for the initial pilot testing of the technology in the state administration

In order to transfer and spread this information, in cooperation with the Slovenian Digital Coalition we have established a “Blockchain Think Tank”, which connects all of the stakeholders and will also serve as a single contact point for discussions with the state. The think tank’s activities will be focused on education and awareness-raising, the drafting of legislative proposals and solutions, and linking Slovenian knowledge and awareness with respect to Industry 4.0.

Slovenia as a whole is therefore setting itself up as a blockchain-friendly destination, and to that end it is establishing the pillars of a national blockchain ecosystem in the area of the transfer and spread of information, the adoption of legal regulations and the promotion of a supportive environment for the development of companies working in the area of blockchain technology.

After the difficult ordeal of the economic crisis, which drastically affected your generation as well, we are coming back to life, we are growing again, and we are finding that we are creating numerous success stories, which inspire us but also obligate us. We have emerged from the crisis stronger. I believe that using blockchain technology, you too will contribute to the writing of a new Slovenian success story.

We stand at the threshold of major changes. I shall always advocate for progress and modern technology. But alongside all of the new concepts in everyday life, we cannot forget about the most important one – people. We will have to work to ensure that the new technology is an asset to and improves our quality of life. Only then will we be able to say that we have made progress.
