Very interest article. However, the key to success of anyone wishing to sell tickets to events is to enter into a contract to make them the primary seller, i.e. like Ticketmaster.
Certainly, it is possible for any new player to undercut Ticketmaster on price due to TM's high commissions and fees. But the performer is primarily interested in having all the tickets sold.
The technology is of no interest to the performer (and as the article pointed out of no interest to the ticket buyer). The issue is selling 100% of the tickets.
My firm Zojax.com develops software for accessing API's of Ticketmaster and other major resellers to maintain a database of ticket prices and events.
