Have You Ever Bought an ICO and Could Not Wait Until it Landed on an Exchange so That You Could Dump?

Well, that is exactly how I used to play the ICO game when I first started buying into ICO's. The problem is that I have missed out on massive returns because I was not patient enough to hold my Crypto's.

My biggest example is Lisk. I bought into this ICO on the last night it was available on a hot tip from a buddy. I had no expectations because I had no idea what it was. When the ICO launched a month or so later I could not wait to sell my small pile of Lisk. I luckily made a good return on my money but that is small potatoes compared to what my returns could have been.

18 Months Later and Lisk is on an Absolute Tear.

lisk-ico-crypto-dapp.png

I bought my Lisk for around $.17 at ICO. If I could have showed patience my return would now be a 49X return. This is not the only time this has happened to me but it is the one that hurts the most.

While I was at SteemFest I had a frank conversation with my Crypto Trading friend Toby Cunningham @tobydaniel2. He was telling me how he does not sell his ICO's. Lisk was one that he has not sold. I told him that I will adopt his method going forward. There is no logical reason for me to dump my cryptos post ICO.

Randy, You Could Sell and Buy More on the Dip.

You are absolutely right but instead of selling my stack I will just simply buy more on the dips and lower my dollar cost average. A perfect example was DBET. Post ICO you could have picked up some of the tokens for about $.025 on Ether Delta. I bought mine for $.10. Now those same tokens are trading for $.19. When I have the time I will learn to trade on Ether Delta and start buying these Cryptos at huge discounts. I truly believe Decent.Bet will moon so I will not be putting my stack on an exchange.

You are right but now a days it is very difficult to choose the right ICO because so many ICO in market and mostly have attractive words and website and nothing on ground any activity behind it.....anyway if you have any good ICO in view ...do share ....i will try to take risk this time....Anyway thanks for sharing your experiences ...GOOD LUCK for Future

These are the current ones I am participating in.
https://ins.world/
https://tigoctm.com/
https://ethlend.io/en/

which one is the best one in your view ? whats its potential? @hilarski

They all are totally different. I will invest equally.

I am aware that SALT is out of the ICO stage already but it's still interesting as a lending platform.

ok.... i will study and thanks for your kind recommendations

I bought this one as well.

INS sounds interesting. Do you think it will really sustain, get accepted, then land on exchanges ? I'm new to ICO world.

Nice post! What will happening, if someone resteem your post?

I've been accumulating Lisk for the past 5 months right before this little pop in price. I think this is just the beginning. They have some big news coming up...rebranding, partnerships, SDK. Still plenty of room to grow. I wish I got in at .17 though...that would be insane returns.

I have been waiting for the rebranding. They sorely need it.

.17 cents!!! I wish I had known about lisk or cryptocurrency in general 18 months ago. I bought a few Lisk about 3 months ago and just took out my initial investment worth of USD last night. Leaving me with a few Lisk still that I will hold onto for the long long term most likely. It almost always pays to hodl that's for sure!

I will be holding my ICO tokens but everything else is fair game. ; )

Haha, Its crypto so anything goes more or less! Just gotta have your exit points planned and not get too caught up in FUD or FOMO, thats my general strategy anyway.
Have a good one!

@hilarski have you considered a strategy such as waiting until the price triples, selling to get your initial investment back; waiting for another triple and selling half then leaving everything else? This way you will be able to move funds around and into new projects, realise gains and still maintain a holding in the project at the end.

If not what is you goal for taking profits out of these ICOs?

That is what I try to do with normal trading. Hodling is something new to me and I will be doing it with my ICO's only.

@hilarski,
That would be a good lesson for all of us! I am not an ICO lover but if I do I will keep remind what you said! Great article friend!

Cheers~

Nice to having some information. You'll be not putting your stack on exchange, and I am going to stack some for me :D

All ICOs are not safe heavens. So what you did was correct. Don't worry about the loss, be positive & think if it fails how it feels you ;) After all you are not a hodl person, you are a trader ;)

Congratulations @hilarski

nice meme, your face suited well for it :) learned lesson shared well. impressive article @hilarski

@resteemia

Profits are profits, hindsight is always clear. Fret not, crypto is still in its infancy stage so I'm sure there are still lots more profits to be made :) I'm still hodling my lisk ;)

Excellent investment, I think my friend, if this is the case, then you have a sense to show patience and wait for the maximum profit in Lisk . Thank you @hilarski

Yes, learn from mistakes, sometimes just have to get patience and wait. There is such a saying. Who knows how to wait, the one gets the best.

Thanks for the tip. I'm really new at cryptos and trying to understand it by learning what I can on Steemit.

I use to be a stock broker right at the very beginning of NASDAQ when twenty of us had to share one computer, so I have some basic knowledge of risky investments and being smart with your investment. But, that was so long ago and this is such a change in my old fiat currency paradigm that posts like this really help.

That is great! You have the foundation that I never had. This should be a pretty easy transition for you.

With a little help from my friends, I am starting to see the light. Whether it be a train or not, I'm still not sure.

Patience is not easy!

Is EtherDelta the only place where DBET is currently trading? I know you have been involved in this coin for a while and I would like to pick some up!

Yes, for now. It will be on BLockchain Labo soon which is a Japanese exchange.

So it sounds like I need to create an account on EtherDelta! :/

i have the same problem.. if i see 100% profit, i cant control myself and sell it.. and when price increase more, then regret.

Did the same with Lisk. Live and learn!

Yup, that is all we can do.

Sometimes you just have to believe, but it's not easy when what you have invested means a lot to you. It is easier to sell than to risk losing everything. You have to have nerves of steel to not sell.

@hilarski - Sir Lisk is a worthy investment for me too.... I bought it in cents & now it's up up up.... <3 No hope to sell it yet Sir.... Nice you decided to share your ICO knowledge Sir.... It's an useful article for me....
To get more audience, I wish to ReSteem your post.

I bought a lot of lisk around 1$. Sold a bunch of it at 5$....

Better than nothing I guess :-)

Gains are gains

lisk is a beast, $8 is still a bargain imo but of course i get what you mean

That was during the good old days when investing in an ICO was sure profit. I invested in ICONOMI and got in return 6 times what I invested intially. Nowadays however you can simply forget about those returns. What about steemit? Are you optimistic or pessimistic about its future ? Why ?

thanks for your post.
you will never know what's happening next. so play safe is also good. I just joined a ICO of DropDeck ...good luck to me!

BCZ OF THIS I SAID MANY TIMES I WILL NOT ENTER ANYTHING NOT CLEAR, ICO IS JUST A GAMBLING GAME, LOTTO, AND NOW YOU ARE CRYING THAT YOU DID NOT KEEP IT WHILE YOU MADE SOME PROFIT, WHAT SHOULD I SAY WHEN I LOST MY 5XXXXX USD ...
I DO NOT ENVY YOU BUT THE TRUTH IS SIMPLY ALL CRYPTO ALL A RISK...
B4 FEW MONTHS BACK ONE BIG CEO LOST 4 MILLIONS OF BYC BCZ HE FORGOT THAT HE STORED THEM ON HIS HARD DISK WHILE HE PURCHASED THEM BY PENNIES AND HE THREW HIS HARD DESK AND HE WAS CRYING FOR HIS LOSS
WHY TO GO FOR SUCH RISK
I DID IT AND I LOST
I WILL NOT REPEAT IT AGAIN

Thanks for shouting. I have changed my tactics and will hold.

OHH SORRY - I FORGOT TO MAKE MY CAPS LOCK SMALL

sorryyyy

SORRYYYYYYYYYYY

this mistake is hapening with me many times as my laptop is old and when i type i do not look to the screen and i press enter

sorrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

great!

Yes. It is very difficult to select an ICO... in this moment I am on EOS, I think it was the last and I purchase at the begging at 1.6, and next at 0.70... in these days it is going up again. That is good.
And my intention is not to sell. It is a very very good project with a huge potential

ICO's are a serious gamble unless you do your research.

Excellent post, ICO's are risky but decent.bet looks great and surely go to the moon.

what was your last invest??

HDG Hedge Token.

oh ok and tell me about btc .....btc will increase in december??

No idea, BTC is a shit show right now.

yeah im agree with you

Very good insight. Thanks for sharing your experience.

LISK has been a nice surprise. Got in at $2. Out at $8....

I'll get back in when this rally settles.

ICOs are too risky for me. I'll stick with just investing at this point and buying coins with decent "crypo age" and are in the top 20-30 market cap. I may not get the same returns, but right now I'm ok with good returns and lower risk. Once I get enough invested at this tier I might branch out to ICOs.

No problem with that tactic.

Thanks and best of luck buying ICO's. Do you share what ICO's your interested in buying into?

Hello @hilarski,

0.17 USD worth Lisk you sold at which price? Extraordinary good article with nice crypto tips.

~@mywhale

I did very well but no 50X.

Hello @hilarski,

Congratulations for the success you made there. Nice information shared.

How many Lisks you had that time? It seems like you lost a huge profit in a single move :(

I never talk my exact numbers. It was plenty.

ok sir thank you

I could imagine, it might be few thousands :) But your experience is a good lesson for us. Have a nice day ahead.

Very good learning

Hi Randy, again a very good advice.

Ouch!

You provide a lot of great advice on investing in crypto currencies. Man, I wish I would have bought Lisk at $0.17

Be Honest with you, i didn't know about this trick or you can it different method : " Post ICO you could have picked up some of the tokens for about $.025 on Ether Delta. I bought mine for $.10. Now those same tokens are trading for $.19. When I have the time I will learn to trade on Ether Delta " Same method we can also try.. My suggestion every one should share there knowledge about cryptocurrency, how they do it or what method or formula they use! It will be BIG favor those are dealing with cryptocurrency (Lover boy!) how @hilarski always sharing with us in his post. Thank you very much.

Good lesson for all, I don't know about ico @hilarski

The problem i find with many ICOs these days is the pre-sale. Then the ones who buy during the ICO are left holding the bags.

I wish i know Crypto before 18 month like you. anyways thanks for sharing your lesson with us.

It's great you share your experience. One thing I tell others when they invest in an ICO is not to just invest to dump the tokens for profit. Invest in ICOs for long-term and research on the projects. Have to be patient.

Thank you for this valuable insight, Randy. I am holding to my Lisk. I bought it just a month ago, but already have seen some nice returns. I believe it's just the beginning for this token.

really helpfull & learning blog thx for share👌👌

Patience is the name of the game, unless you hear via reliable sources to make a move sooner. Great points raised @hilarski sadly many do not give the coin or token a chance to lift off the ground.

Ouch. I just realised how much I missed out in selling my lisk for $0.49c Arrrgh.

Wow! 0.17 cents for Lisk. Do you remember if the ICO was red hot popular and there was alot of good info before you invested? I ask because presently there are so many ICOs and many look not safe to invest and feedback from others is the same where not all ICOs will moon shot.

Sorry should have read the comments before I asked. Lol.

Congratulations @hilarski!

lessons are important in cryptos

I also invest in ICOs. There are a few that I am currently invested in that I am hoping to make a decent return. WAX (token designed for in-game item trading for videogamers), which is the coin I just wrote about, Boosteroid (a cheaper mining platform), and Ucoincash (similar to the BitConnect platform and business strategy).

Nice post! Ive just put a post up here about a couple of current ICO's Im looking at. For anyone interested - Follow me, and I'll post regular updates on them and my experiences with the process. achievement-bar-business-chart-40140.jpeg

Hi @hilarski i have never Bought an ICO, and don't have clearly info about it, can any one help.

Start learning on Youtube. Only buy ones you believe in.

I like ICO's but still not there where I can buy them so sticking around playing little game but having a dream to play big and definitely taking a step towards it. @hilarski I liked to read your post the genesis was good.

Hey Randy! Do you still invest in ICOs?

of selling my stack I will just simply
