A group of news organizations and journalists from around the world have come together to release a new cryptocurrency into the market- PressCoin. The new cryptocurrency is a sustainable measure to promote and fund investigative journalism and it aims to overthrow media monopolies who currently control the market.

The initial coin offering (ICO), which will last 28-days, is scheduled to start on November 22. The Ethereum-based currency will initially be valued at $1 for a coin and will be distributed to both journalists and readers depending on the level of engagement they are able to generate. Popular Indian TV host and Washington Post writer, Barkha Dutt, is one of the many renowned journalists part of the PressCoin media team.
