Altrucher & Amazon, eBay & Adyen

CRYPTO-CONFAB: Ooh, I wonder if eBay will beat Amazon to the finish line with accepting cryptocurrency? I reviewed the meeting minutes from the Amazon's quarterly meeting from Friday (02/02) after tracking James Altrucher's report of Amazon potentially accepting BTC as early as the end of last week. However, I saw no mentioned of crypto, cryptocurrency, the blockchain or anything associated with taking alternative payments among the minutes.

However, I did see the news as I am sure much of you did that eBay parted ways with PayPal and they're on board with Adyen. Adyen's tagline on Google search results states, "Accept every payment on one platform & drive conversions anywhere in the world."

It's interesting because I was on the Adyen website and didn't see info on crypto there either, however, I did come across a couple of resources that pointed to them dabbling in it as early as 2015/2016 including this post I found from Adyen CEO on BTC from Reddit in April 2015.

"We are agnostic about who we work with. We believe that consumers should pay with whichever method they prefer...” the post goes on to read, “In February, Adyen announced that it would start processing bitcoin – due to requests from some of its customers to accept the cryptocurrency. As a payments processor, he says, his concern is not about the price volatility of bitcoin, but rather the velocity or volume of trade, which is currently low..."

Then there was this video from CNBC about 2 weeks after that Reddit post:

I also found this article titled, "Bitcoin Accepting Payment Platform Adyen Doubles in Revenue" from "NewsBTC" in January of 2016:

Then finally, this last article from "NewsBTC" in October of 2016 with the article https://www.newsbtc.com/2016/10/27/adyen-brings-global-payments-1-7-million-etsy-sellers/ ending with this news:

While eBay is dropping PayPal as their payment processor, it looks as though they're keeping them on as a payment option. "PayPal spokeswoman Amanda Miller said the company will "continue to provide a comprehensive payments solution to eBay through July 2020." It will also remain a payment option at checkout for eBay customers until July 2023."

Was Altrucher wrong about Amazon? He was urging listeners to enroll into some cryptocurrency courseware before 02/02/18 due to this predicted announcement. He has been right in the past about other market predictions like Facebooks IPO being over $100 Billion market cap as early as 2007 among others.

Have any of you heard otherwise about Amazon? Any other news about Adyen going back to accepting BTC via Bitpay? I think Altrucher was right, but early. Acceptance of cryptocurrency like BTC among others is only picking up "steem" (pun intended) and the writing is on the wall...
