Have we lost our way?

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago

Hi, i'm not an economic specialist and not English so pardon me if some of the following sentences lack the right vocabulary.

I started to follow cryptocurrencies few years ago. My friends and i were all very pleased to see it as a way for people to take back what banks all over the world have: Power. We still had in mind the "financial crisis", the bank responsability and what they did after that.

Back then, most of the people who started to be interested by crypto weren't in it for the profit. The horizontal management of money, was an ideal and all the possibilites in terms of programming were huge and quite unlimited.

But years after years, we saw more media coverage, we first thought it was a great way to bring crypto to everyone and make it the new economic system of tomorrow. Coverage and prices went up, some were tempted to sell their bitcoin and be back in the usual banking system, some other stayed believing that staying was a matter of belief and build of a better tomorrow. BTC price went crazier and it attracted people more interested in easy money than the core of each cryptocurrency project, we now see some project with a great core idea being bump and dumped just for a matter a profit with maybe 80% of the holders not even knowing what the currency they bought low and sold high was about.
Even if some of us continue to believe and back up some project for the ideas they carry, my friends and i feel powerless in a system where profit, once more has taken over ideas and innovation.

My main question is, do you also think that most people are in it for the profit? Are you, your self, in it for the profit or for the ideas?

If you have any clue, agree or disagree with me please let me know in the comments.
