HitBTC System Health - Check First Before Using (Beware!)

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago

It is important to check HitBTC System Health before using the HitBTC exchange!
It can be found here: https://hitbtc.com/system-health

So I have only used HitBTC a handful of times and have had decent experiences for the most part, not my favorite exchange, but haven't had problems in the past. Anyway, I purchased a small amount of Stellar (XLM) a little over a day ago and when I went to withdraw it, I got this message "Please note that XLM withdrawals are temporarily unavailable due to technical maintenance. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience." It didn't bother me a whole lot because I wasn't in any type of hurry, but after more then a day not being able to withdraw it and still having to leave it on the exchange, I decided to look into it a little further.

When you look into HitBTC's Support Center, you are directed to https://hitbtc.com/system-health to check on the deposit/withdrawal status of particular coins and tokens. I was surprised at how many are offline and not available for deposit and/or withdrawal, however you can still purchase them. As of this writing, there are at least 57 coins/tokens that are listed as OFFLINE. There is also no update on when the particular system will be up again. On a side note, I am not sure if this is the exchange itself having issues or on the coin/token/wallet side.

I feel like they should post the status of the particular coin/token on the exchange page, so you see it when you are going to purchase. I find it to be a little misleading to be able to purchase an item, but then not be able to withdraw it or have any timeline. You can always sell it right away at a loss, but that just means the exchange is making money twice and you are losing out. Anyway, I just wanted to give the community a heads up and I am sure many of you are aware of this anyway, but newer members to the space who have not used HitBTC should have this knowledge going in. Maybe this info will help some people out.
