DAO é uma Organização Autônoma Descentralizada. Podem ser pensadas como corporações administradas sem qualquer envolvimento humano, sob o controle de um conjunto (teoricamente) incorruptível de regras de negócios. Esse tipo de organização teve a sua primeira tentativa na Ethereum mas falhou miseravelmente resultando num hardfork (criando o Ethereum Classic - corrente original sem reversão de transações).

They can be thought of as managed corporations without any human involvement, under the control of an (theoretically) incorruptible set of business rules. This type of organization had its first attempt at Ethereum but failed miserably resulting in a hardfork (creating the Ethereum Classic - original chain with no reversal of transactions).
