[Cryptocurrency] Brave Browser: $1 Million Token Giveaway

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago

Brave, a free and open-source browser released by co-found of Mozilla and creator of JavaScript, Brendan Eich. It's based upon the Chromium browser project and it's blink engine, and it claims to be able to block intrusive ads and website trackers, which are some really useful privacy features. It's currently in beta for all platforms, although stable builds are available for android and iOS.

The real killer feature of Brave is it's payments system and Basic Attention Token (BAT). It's a cryptocurrency-based micropayments system that can automatically and privately pay your favourite websites using the BAT token (which uses the Ethereum blockchain).

So, with Brave Payments, all a user needs to do is activate Brave Payments from the preferences page, top up their wallet and then decide what sites you want to support. Once everything is setup, the process is automatic. You can set your budget and either enable or disable certain sites from receiving payments from you. All of this is done without jeopardizing your privacy, using the Anonize Protocol over the network and via statistical voting on-device, so that no-one can correlate browsing page views with payments. A creator simply collects their aggregated donations after authenticating themselves.

With the recent troubles over on YouTube, there seems to be more demand for an alternative platform. DTube could solve all those smaller YouTubers problems by enabling them to earn on their videos, even if they aren't getting thousands of hours worth of views. If, down the line, Brave and DTube/Steemit can integrate with each other, this could be a really strong platform going forwards.

Now for the good news! Brave are currently giving away $1 million worth of BAT tokens to new users, so if you head on over to the link I've included below, download Brave and enable Brave Payments, you'll be awarded 10 BAT tokens (although these aren't for hodling, if they aren't used within 90 days then they'll be put back into the user pool). It's a good excuse to play around with the browser without risking any of your cryptocurrencies.

What do you think about the Brave project? Could this be the browser to finally topple Chrome from it's top spot? Let me know what you think in the comments down below.
