US Gov Seizes Russian Bitcoin Exchange BTC-e Domain

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago

In a move sure to escalate current tensions between Russia and the USA and may be the be a perfect example of current market climate of Bitcoin and altcoins, the US Federal Government seized the domain name belonging to BTC-e.

The reason for the seizure was the recent development after the arrest of Alex Vinnik that the stolen Mt. Gox funds had likely been laundered by the site, nearly $4 bln in Bitcoin.

Funds are being kept safe by the site which claims it will be back online within five to ten days. The seizure by the US government most likely means the site will be closed permanently.

Many in the crypto universe will view this as a good move by the USA with the criminal activity certainly hurting the state Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general.

...and the US steps in to tame the Wild West again. Let's see how far they push to further regulate all crypto platforms because of this. They want to control it somehow. Inevitable?

This is the question I am wondering about too. Last week when I saw South Korea is now regulating the Crytpo market I asked myself how long until the USA follows.

This could greatly benefit cryptocurrencies like PIVX & Monero

Monero.. I hope they continue to shore up their development from this type of bs.. If you are old enough to read and vote, you are old enough to decide what you want to do with your money.

@avva. Where were you when I was 16? That's when I first wanted to vote! Of course I learned to read many years before that, but I like your idea if it means more people voting......That could motivate more OLDER people to get off the fence and make their voice heard...

I think it will become increasingly difficult for any government or bank to control bitcoin. Even if they manage to, there are many new global decentralized and digital crypto currencies that are preparing to take it's place. We'll see.
