Names Matter

Isn't there a better term out there than "crypto-currency" or "blockchain"?

We are in new era of money. Or perhaps a new era of currency. Or perhaps both.
Having left precious metals behind for paper, and paper for electrons, people are beginning to trade goods and services for code. But I feel like the most common names being thrown around for this new method of transaction are not going to be the terms that stick.
"Crypto-currency" summons images of the Crypt Keeper. Or at best a shadowy underworld of hackers half-crazed on energy drinks.
"Blockchain" has many negative connotations. Can't we come up with a term that avoids images of barriers and chains?
Perhaps this doesn't really matter, as there are still many competing varieties of this new type of currency out there, and more to come, that will all take their own crack at coming up with a catchy name that may one day be as common as Band-Aid or Q-Tip (when's the last time you looked for an adhesive bandage or a cotton swab on a stick?) and a clunky general term like crypto-currency may not matter.

But I do think names matter and in this case are slowing the acceptance of this new form of currency in the general public.

Any ideas on a better term?
