Kathleen Rice of New York has proposed a bill called "Homeland Security Assessment of Terrorists Use of Virtual Currencies Act". This bill was written because of the recent ransomware cyber attacks which left many networks hostage. These hackers demanded pay in virtual currencies like Bitcoin for the return of the vital encrypted data.  May 18 is when the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence will review the bill for markup.
