"I've heard that you are into cryptocurrencies! Let me ask you something..." THE STORY ABOUT PATIENCE

Have patience to read the whole story because

A few days ago my family had a BBQ for my uncle's B-day and we all got together to have a little celebration.
We don't see each other very often so after the usual "What's going on with you" small talk, my mother's cousin, who is 64 years of age, sat down with me and said "I've heard that you are into cryptocurrencies! Can you explain the core of it in 3 minutes?"

Where is patience?

"3 miutes?" I said "Ain't that a little bit too short to teach someone to ride a bike not to mention something so complex as crypto?"
The thing is that people don't have patience. Patience, which is so crucial when dealing with crypto!
I never cared much for time and deadlines so I began going all about blockchain and smart contracts , decentralisation and free market... He was really getting bored.

"Look here" he said "I have invested already in XY and gained 25% on it so, basicaly, I want you to tell me where to invest next."
That made me laugh my ass off. My dad looked at me like he tought that I had one too many if you know what I mean (which I did but later on). ;-)
"Give me the money instead!" I said, still giggling from my outburst of laughter.
After a few seconds of confusion he got a hold of the situation and went "Why would I give you my money??"
"Well, you know me from when I was born" there goes me again "You know which schools I went to. You know my grades. You know my parents. You know my character. I would even tell you where I'll spend your money! After all, I will give you your 25%..."
"Come on, don't make fun of me" he said "I want to invest into crypto!"
After a few more seconds of silence, I made my point "You would invest into something without knowing anything about it? Without at least having a basic piece of knowledge or the idea what that button does ? Considering you know everything about me, invest in me or take time to learn so you can make your own decisions."

Disappointment

"But I don't have time!" he continued as I knew he would.
"Than I can't help you!" there's me again, trying to sound serious. "I can't tell you where to invest your money. That is what brokers do. I can take time to answer any other question you have about how these things work and..." there he interupted me again.
"OK, OK, I understand" he didn't have enough patience to even let me finish "doesn't matter! I'll call you if I need anything else" he put a stop to our discussion.

He was disappointed.

After consuming a big portion of BBQ he went to lay down a bit and was sleeping for 2 hours. He could've had a nice after-lunch conversation about crypto in that time, maybe learning something new. Not to metion that taking a nap at someone elses home after lunch is, at least, impolite.

I know he's not the only one investing in crypto without educating himself first. People make uneducated guesses all the time and get burned doing so. Patience is crucial in life as it is in buisness!

  • have patience if you believe in something
  • heve patience while waiting for the perfect buy in
  • have patience; If you missed one train, the next one is surely coming your way

The lack of patience creates FUD and FOMO and causes people to lose money as this story's main caracter probably will!
