Many friends new in cryptostuff asking why is everything going to hell.
Cryptocurrency gurus, experts, and supporters are still wasting time circlejerking on Twitter, Medium, and Facebook. It's like they're trying their best not to use cryptocurrencies. Recently found out about the ultra-cheap rates for buying likes and accounts on Twitter. Talk about mass media manipulation. Time to start using Steem, guys.
Steem received a good score from Weiss Ratings. Listed on Binance. @ned seems pretty enthusiastic on Twitter. Smart Media Tokens out soon. Future is bright with this baby.
Sold off all Substratum last week. The team doesn't seem to have a beta-product anywhere near ready yet and in my opinion, had been misleading expectations back in December 2017. Got booted out of Telegram chat because the admins thought I was trolling. Might buy back much cheaper. Remains to be a project that'll really fly if it works.
Raiblocks rebranded as Nano. Pretty sexy all around and might even grab IOTA's marketshare. So far, my favourite pure currency. Increased position just in case this takes off. As for IOTA, just maintaining the position since it has corporate backing and such.
Been accumulating SingularityNET's AGI tokens. The core team behind the project has recently made an appearance in the World Economic Forum in Davos, as well as partnering up with the likes of Nexus, SGInnovate, NR Capital, and Ocean Protocol. Been slowly accumulating some more Agoras tokens over the past month after watching some of Ohad Asor's videos on Youtube. Honestly, one of the most mind-blowing concepts in the space and would love to see more people digging into it and expressing the idea. Laddering down my buys to accumulate more EOS below $8. Ethereum developers not making the hedge on EOS will cry tears of regret later on.
TaaS is distributing its third quarterly dividends between Feb 1 - Feb 10 (source). So far the dividends in 6 months (two quarters) had fully covered my ICO entry. With a growing token value and quarterly dividend payouts, this is proving itself to be a stable coin to hold, although still not entirely automated. Other than that, TaaS is well diversified, all-rounded.

Other than Pillar, another wallet-centric project that's making progress is Ethos (previously Bitquence). Laddering down buys to accumulate some more of this.
Better use of time in cryptocurrencies: less time trading and speculating. More time time learning, building, and writing about cryptocurrencies.

Excellent overview, Kevin. I'm sad I sold my Agoras tokens. I was bag holding them forever because it seemed like a really interesting project to me as well, but eventually I cut my losses and sold and of course it went up after that. Maybe I'll give it a second look eventually. A while back I took my IOTA gains and bought some Nano at around $1.60. That was one of my best trades of the year. :) I fully agree about stacking EOS whenever you can. I'm also starting to think STEEM may have some big players interested in SMTs due to tweets like this.

Oh that's an amazing move! As for Agoras, I gotta say that I've developed some confidence on it through some trusted accounts on Steem like @trafalgar and @dana-edwards. Wish I understand more about it enough to write about it someday :)

EOS and STEEM are my top two for what I expect to be a difficult year.
Sitting on anything else and waiting just doesn't make sense to me right now. I'd much rather be here, seeking out worthwhile content and using my proof of stake to reward and help people along the way.

When it comes to nano and IOTA I went for IOTA till now, since they have a more advanced development than Nano I would say (regarding partnerships etc.)
Have to take a deeper look at Nano as well.

I haven't really do any trading on these cryptos as I am concentrating more on accumulating steems at the moment.
Definitely, continue to learn about cryptocurrency.
I may not reach the level of writing nor building it, but knowing that I got a very good clue on finding the OASIS is more than enough at the moment.

I would say now is a pretty decent buying opportunity. For me 2018 will be more about investing deeper into the projects that are materializing and where i see solid evidence that they deliver on their plans and promises. Given the track record of Dan i think more EOS is definitely good. Steem no doubt has solid foundations to go high in 2018.

I've been intrigued by FORCE coin. It seems to be a community project with real traction, specifically designed to be part of a system of co-evolving blockchains. Its market cap is up 4 fold in the last 30 days. Do you like it or does it look like a pump and dump?

Those new to crypto do have to be mindful that right now the crypto market is all speculation. In the future, when these cryptos have working products, it's only THEN that the market will start 'pruning' out all the bad cryptos, which will inevitably go to zero. Thanks for the important reminder to choose a coin not because it is greatly discounted due to a correction or because it has low market cap or a cheap buying price. It's important to believe in the technology and be in it for the long run, believing that despite any government regulations, crypto will prevail eventually if it is better and more efficient than fiat.

Really glad you put this article out. We're in a big pull back right now, so this is great information for us newbies who have an opportunity to get in now. I appreciate the the update on Substratum. I'm going to pass on that for now. I'm really excited SingularityNET because it essentially creates a hive mind for AI developers and rewards them for developing AI (AI developers are already highly motivated) and Nano/Railblocks. after reading this I guess we should invest more carefully. Many of cryptos some are stopped doing good job and few are at worst position. There is new crypto currency that has potential I guess known as bitcoinwhite. It really good job for new currency just lauched on 30 january.

I diversified more than half of my crypto holding in alts, when some of them profit and I sold away, I tend to convert them into Steem as my time in Steem accumulating. Seriously other than Steem I couldn't find any other project that make me feel real, practical.
Agoras is definitely interesting and the founder is ultra confident, guess now is the best time to collect some.

Great breakdown. I'm not sure what this downtrend is a result of. I do think Bitcoin will survive because other cryptos just brag about how they don't have the problems bitcoin has, but they don't have the volume and scale either.
Every time I buy Steem, the price tanks a bit. What do you think of Vertcoin? I bought some a while back and now the price is less than $3. I think it might be one of the coins that survives this. It's a solid coin but doesn't get much marketing or hype.
I see huge potential with Steem, but it sucks that I keep buying it at daily highs and then seen half my investment gone lol. Will have to just wait it out I guess.

STEEM is proving to be making waves in the cryptocurrency world at the moment, but from my experience with speaking to other people in this space that are not involved in STEEM or Steemit, it is still widely undervalued based on its current innovation, never mind SMTs and more.
It is terrible to see so called "crypto-gurus" who are selling people an image as opposed to knowledge.. I work full time in cryptocurrencies, between ICO consulting, online course creation and now blogging, but I try and genuinely stay away from most social media platforms other than Steemit, as I do not want to be seen as a "crypto-guru" etc.
Raiblocks' rebranding really is pretty sweet, although I don't know if they'll take IOTA's market share - time will tell though!
Thanks for sharing all of these updates - I am currently trying to set up a Steemit incubator for beginners where I provide them with guides to Steemit, upvotes on excellent content and even graphic design support (where possible) for free. I'm just looking to get some delegated SP to get the project really started! I think with myself and so many others who are genuinely trying to help the beginners on Steemit, as well as very experienced users like yourself, the platform has a great future.

Steem currently low down under $5, so time to buy more steem. I believe after the the SMTs coming out steem and other some cryptos start a gaining. Better to follow your crypto portfolio. I think ETH can be coming to top list than BTC. Its only my opinion. EOS also attractive ICO project. I'll check other cryptos as you discuss there.
However after some tough period lot of cryptos will be high in this year. Be patience.

I read Pull years ago when the semantic web idea was really popular during the early days of web 2.0. It had some interesting ideas but they couldn't come to pass in the walled garden web.
