The Subway Sandwich That Cost over $165 Worth of Bitcoin

In 2013 Adam Welsh commuted over two hours to Allentown, Pennsylvania, the third largest city in Pennsylvania. Little did he know, he would soon secure his spot in cryptocurrency history: being one of the first individuals to conduct an over-the-counter Bitcoin transaction at a Lehigh Valley business (the Lehigh Valley has OVER 800,000 residents).

Of all places, this business happened to be Subway, a corporate eatery we all know quite well. Adam paid 0.04 Bitcoin for his Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich at the time, which presumably cost the usual $5 - $6. See video below:

This transaction not only made local history for a large Metropolitan area; it also shows how FAR Bitcoin has come. As you can see from the picture below, Bitcoin is currently valued at $4,144.99.

Therefore, that 0.04 Bitcoin Adam paid for his sandwich is equivalent to $165.80 today! Think about how mind-boggling that is for a moment... Adam echoes this in an update he posted on his video 2 months ago (the value has gone up $45 since!):

Thanks to early pioneers like Adam (as well as the Subway owner), Bitcoin made it through the early stages and is now a household name. And considering that forecasters predict that Bitcoin will break $10,000 by the end of this year, we can expect Adam's sandwich to only become exorbitantly more expensive over time.
