5 Cryptos I Know Nothing About but Would Love to LearnsteemCreated with Sketch.

5 Cryptos IMAGE.jpg

I've known bitcoin since mid-2012. Damn. I remember trading back at $13 on Mt. Gox. Unfortunately I didn't see the massive rise to over a $100 within just months the next year.

Bitcoin Price Chart - 2012-01-01 to 2013-08-17 (winkdex.com) $13 and $150 labelled with arrows and Freakin Idiot meme.jpg

Since litecoin started in October of 2011, there's been a slew of altcoin software copies of cryptocurrency; reaching to well over 1,000 today. So without further ado, here's the

5 Cryptos I would Love to learn more about.

#1: NEM

Site - Blog - Announcement Post (2014-06-13) - Subreddit r/nem

NEM has rose through the ranks this year to rest at the Top 7th cryptocurrency traded. It literally went from a 1 Million Dollar market cap to 1 Billion Dollars and Over in just 17 months! Just knowing that, there has to be something to it.

Though I first heard about it in 2014, I did not learn much until this year seeing it recommended as a top contender to bitcoin, fighting in the ranks of Dash and Litecoin. Unfortunately everything I learned I have forgot so I must research it at this moment before the next sentence.

FEATURES that Excite Me:

  • NEM has zero inflation because the full supply of 9 billion coins was released at launch
  • Supposedly energy efficient block reward algorithm (Proof-of-Importance)
  • Encrypted messaging system
  • Has an API to allow applications to be built on top of it

#2: EOS

Site - Twitter - Announcement Post (2017-05-06) - Subreddit r/eos - Steemit

EOS seemed to come quick. It's steemit blog account started just 3 months ago with an introduction post publishedon May 14th. It took me until July to hear about it.

It launched with a crowd sale which was officially unavailable for United States citizens to purchase. This alone made it interested and I really wanted to look at getting some but still have not. Here's a video to learn more about EOS

FEATURES that Excite Me:

  • Platform for Decentralized applications
  • Claimed to be the 'Ethereum Killer'
  • PLUS it's made by Steem's creator Dan Larimer!
  • It launched on ethereum! - That's like if bitcoin was initially sold via paypal, how ironic and triumphant if it overtakes ethereum in the end

#3: Ripple

Site - Dev Blog - WIKI - Subreddit r/Ripple

Ripple is still an enigma to me. It's been around many years (since 2012). I think many hardcore cryptocurrency enthusiasts can relate to me when I say my initial beliefs and gut are telling me ripple is the centralized institutional currency we don't want to mess with. It is anti-bitcoin in terms of freedom; akin to the ECoin* part of the debate for digital currency in the show Mr. Robot.

In Sep 2013 apparently they announced it open source which is interested, as well as some kind of "lock-up" in June this year which I know nothing about. Whether it's 'evil' or not, I would love to know more about it seeing how old it is and how well established. It doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon, that's for sure.

FEATURES that Excite Me:

  • Payment protocol that's aged
  • Possible 'bad-guy' in the cryptoverse, something to be striving to defeat and overtake

#4: NEO

Site - Blog - Announcement Post (2016-08-01) - Subreddit r/Antshares - White Paper

My #4 pick was a very hard one. My original thought was Monero as it was a privacy oriented coin competing with Dash just a few months ago. Right now it's at the #14 spot. I also was intrigued by many newcomers jumping up recently like Stratis, OmiseGo and IOTA which is worth nearly 3 Billion! IOTA is worth more than Litecoin OR Dash and it's only been trading for months

Since coinmarketcap has tracked its price in September 2016, NEO was trading for less than $2 since until June this year where it shot up 400% to over $10 and eventually around $40 where it stands now. It was originally called Antshares but rebranded as Neo in June which makes sense for the price rise. I'm sure glad they renamed it!

FEATURES that Excite Me:

  • Name is awesome
  • Rebranding and huge price rise makes it very exciting
  • New smart contract system, the 'Chinese Ethereum'
  • Support for and plans to implement multiple programming languages

#5: Ethereum

Ethereum Logo (black transparent BG with text).png
Honestly I'm embarrassed about this one. I missed the main boat. And then lost (or misplaced?) my small holding during the btce fiasco recently.

Now with blockchain adding ethereum, I'm even more regretful. This is really their first implementation of another cryptocurrency after they started in 2011.

FEATURES that Excite Me:

  • Silicon Valley backing
  • Enthusiastic fanbase
  • It's not a currency but a smart contract platform for applications

That's it!

I bought into NEO when it was about $12. I watched my investment go up past $600 recently. Pretty cool because I didn't even put that much into it.

oh my goodness. It feels like we're in an altcoin bubble again like late 2013 (litecoin rise to $50 and crashed to about $2 within 6 months)

I got a few of this in my shadow portfolio, if you want to have a look, I just posted performance yesterday.

yeah link please?

right before mt. gox debacle I almost got bitcoin but it deterred me so I never got it ;(

If you want a trusted site to use for Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin I advise Coinbase. The New York Stock Exchange has invested in Coinbase so you know it's not scammers. They have a great android app, and a reasonable set up process. And a good cold storage wallet is Coinomi. JUST NEVER FORGET YOUR PASSWORD. EVER. Write every password and restoration key down and put it in a secure place just in case. And before you invest in coins it helps to read the white papers that detail what that project is about. On coinmarketcap.com you can see hundreds of coins and their ups and downs and often links to their websites. If you don't want to be on a exchange like coinbase you could use something like changelly. And as always never invest anything you are not prepared to lose.
Steeming Stadex.

Hey @stadex you seem to know your shit. Tell me which is the easiest way to buy the likes of Ethereum. Is there any article you would recommend that is user-friendly and relatively jargon-free. And is coinbase easy to use?

You could go on changelly.com right now and buy ethereum as quickly as you can enter your ethereum wallet address and your credit card details. Coinbase is easy too, but you must first set up a account which doesn't take long, they do want id verification, take good photos of your passport and you should have a verification in a day or so. Also make a small bank transaction to your coinbase account as soon as possible to verifiy your fiat bank account for future investments or exit back to fiat currency ($€£).
Here is a link for the official ethereum project website with more information.
https://www.ethereum.org/

shapeshift.io

you can even hold ether in your blockchain.info wallet

bittrex.com you can also trade there

Just to add some info about Coinbase:

  • website isn't totally stable (happens to many exchanges though).
  • app is indeed really nice (compared to the fact that most exchanges have no app...)
  • fees are really high :(
  • Limited number of coins available.

As an alternative, the trusted Kraken. Still a bit slow, no app, but more coins, lower fees (which get lower the more you trade) and reliable.

I would not use coinbase if you value privacy and don't want government taxing you after the fact; see this:
https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@mikeparker/most-bitcoiners-leave-their-bitcoin-at-risk

Right before the Mt. Gox debacle I got bitcoin and then lost it...

I would say neo is more like a ethereum killer than eos :p at least for now

EOS is better, as NEO is just ETH which advance security. But EOS is bridge between different languages different coins and different platform.
ETH and NEO are like linear in development but EOS is multi directional in implementation like a bridge.

Thanks for your opinion. With Steemit.com so innovative I have high hopes for EOS coming from the same man Dan Larimer

interesting

There seems to be so many candidates that deserve more attention these days... I really want to invest broadly, but at the same time a %500 gain just ain't that interesting, if you're only $100 in...

I invested in PIVX and I've made some hundreds, it made me excited cuz it felt like I threw pennies at it. the more you risk, the more potential reward. We could be in another altcoin bubble though. especially after bitcoin fixed its problems. its incredibly bullish to have segwit, but there is potential for bubble it literally is up over 4x in 6 months after many years of already incredible gains.

Watch out for Ripple. It's a Banker-created coin, and it is not mined. They can inflate at will, and any failing bank owning that asset will drop it first when needing to liquidate. And there's plenty of banks fixing to take the plunge.

exactly. I warned about it in my last article here: Ripple is now Even More Suspicious: Bernanke Aligns with Ripple

Thanks for passing that along. Now, with that said, it doesn't mean it won't have legs. I just don't trust it. It has been good for some people riding some of the upticks.

I told my brother to hold onto NEO when it was AntShares and he had a sizable investment when it was ~$1.80-3.50 a piece as I figured the market value was at least ethereum classic level. I didn't expect it to hit it before a least a few more months, let alone well surpass it due to language barriers. I can understand the skepticism at the time though given the limited access to information on it.

Not an investment for weak hands, that's for sure.

way too many cryptos to learn; so many smart programmers out there; but really the world doesn't need so many - i mean they'll compete for a while. like there was myspace, but it faultered and let facebook take its place.

there's only 1 eBay; no one gives a rats butt about other platforms for that much buying/selling worldwide. etsy is like a sliver of the same volume for custom made creations which is its own niche and not the same.

each alt has to find their niche in the coming 5-15 years or fall by the wayside.

Great article. It can definitely be frustrating to miss a huge rise in a cryptocurrency's value, but then again, everything is always clear after the fact. I will be reading more your posts, succinct and information-dense.

I Like How You Did Your Reaserch On All Of These And Came Out With The Important Stuff (Time Saving For Us Readers :)), Also I Have A Few Of These In My Portfolio But Thanks To You I'm Considering Some More Of These :)

great to hear thanks for comment :)

All of them are fine aside from NEO.

Ripple is a centralized scam. It's far from fine.

thats what I talked about in my last article, they're a conundrum, bank supported for sure, bernanke is speaking at their conference!

https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@mikeparker/ripple-is-now-even-more-suspicious-bernanke-aligns-with-ripple

Why don't you like NEO?

what's wrong with NEO in your opinion?

You totally left out BAT, Dash, Sia, Maidsafe and Monaco. Add those 5 to the list and make a top 10. I invest in NEO, ETH and NEM. They are all excellent products. I think NEO has the greatest growth potential of them all.

Bat is like number 800 and something lol but I looked at it and its actually a great concept. I think i'l buy some just in case. The damn thing is cheaper than dirt right now lol.

BAT is actually #30 at the moment. Do your research.

35 actually lol. Not sure what coin I mistaked it with.

Price fluctuations. It's #33 at the moment when I'm looking.

I figure with the attention span of people these days I would just have used too much time for little worth to make more than 5 picks to research. - I know a lot on dahs/litecoin already so not included those

Dash and maidsafe are both pretty unique propositions in the space - sure dash has its forks like PIVX but that isnt bringing anything new and is just 3 guys who were wounded at how rapidly dash started to blow up and so couldn't get a MN together - looking at you 'the dash guy'!

Nice article. You may also want to learn about DigiByte. I just did a report on breakout possibility. https://steemit.com/crypto/@anarchist1/looking-for-undervalued-crypto-breakout-report-1

ive heard it - theres too many to learn, what site best organized these altcoins and compares features?

Yes, I had a friend who tried to persuade me that Bitcoin was a good investment about 5 years ago... and I actually had some money then that I could have invested... but, I didn't... and now it is worth THOUSANDS of dollars.

I have never wished more for a time machine...

Yeah at $10 could have made 400x your money. $1000 at that point would net you over $400,000! Millionaires gallore have been made

I know what you mean about the time machine!

haha, I told my friends 2-3 years ago, but they didn't buy it. Now they go pale when I tell them the price of bitcoin!

Well you're onto it now its not too late; glad you're on steemit too! steem could be the train that takes crypto mainstream (one of them) via just writing and sharing

All these coins are still intheir infancy so if you buy $10 of bitcoin today you will still - over 3 to 5 years - see a much bigger return than from any bank. Sure not inthe 'instant millionaire' league but still decent money for just HODLing!

That wouldn't be the case with BTC. It's too old and too clunky. It has $8 transaction fees which are more than 100 times higher while being even 100 times or even slower. Basically BTC is a 10,000 times less efficient coin. It simply doesn't have a future.

Longer term I'd agree - over your arbitrary 'less than $5 billion dollar market cap by end of 2020' timeline though, no, not IMO likely

3 years is long time in crypto. It's a high growth high volatility market. Crypto is pure tech and innovation. Just look at the Moore's law. Just look at how much technology can change and advance in 3 years. Blockchain space is getting into the mainstream which will become a catalyst for everything. Just look at BTC from 3 years ago and now. Look at how far things have come. I can say the same about Dash, Maidsafe and a whole lot of coins including ETH which weren't even a thing 3 years ago.

3 years is a long long time.

I'd say look into PrimeCoin, its my current favorite. The core value that PrimeCoin adds is that the Proof Of Work system is useful for cryptography since its finding large primes (which crypto is based on). This means that all the used mining power isn't being wasted on hashes but rather being used to improve our future cryptography and security.

isn't that years old? i invested long ago; thought it was still stale coin

Always make sure you don't leave cryptos in an exchange. 1 because until you do, you do not own it, and 2 because they can get hacked like Mt Gox.

VERY good advice!!

Keep hearing that the actual "xrp" will be worthless because the banks aren't buying it up, there just utilizing ripples tech. Thoughts?

Most likely.

Ethereum is been establishing a place in many platforms. A partnership of sorts with digital merchant accessibility. The smart contracting allows for safe secure disbursement of agreed upon interests provided the contracted responsibilities have been met. If contract is not met nothing is released. In a single word to describe ethereum I would use "escrow." 2.0

they will have the network effect for a while, even if EOS or NEO is better - for now got name recognition for SURE

I have BTC, Litecoin and Nem. I will add more cryptos as time passes. What I am really hot to do is to habe 1 entire bitcoin. That's around $4000 right now lol. I know about bitcoin since a long time but I didn't research it. So I missed the original hype. They say 1 BTC could be half a million, if that happens I want to be part of it. That day the World will be a very different place. Already now BTC is more valuable that 1 ounce of Gold. Surely by now investors, banks, traders rtc. would have noticed it. The more it rises the more attantion it gets and the stronger it gets.
Up up and aWAY.

You should love Dash, internal governance (voting system) masternode dividend rewards, faster processing and ability for private send, very well practiced marketing team and US base in Arizona.

BTC wouldn't even reach $10,000 and I predict BTC market cap will go under $5 billion by the end of 2020. I made a killing in the two BCH bull runs and Monaco bull run.

You seriously think BTC is going to go from $60something billion dollars right now to $5billion by end of 2020 - in an exploding market?

Hmm I dont see it happening @vimukthi $100 billion before end of 2020 sure, $5 billion, lol no but your post gave me a chuckle so thanks for that I guess ;)

Shows how well informed you are. BTC isn't some company on a stock exchange. It's an outdated technology that cannot even scale. BTC can barely to 4 Tx/s when NEM built itself to be capable of 3000 Tx/s for for few HUNDRED times less cost years ago. Compared to Dash, BTC is simply garbage. The only reason Buttcoin is #1 is because first mover advantage.

I don't even see much of a future in BCH either. It can certainly achive 10:1 price with BTC in 3 years but still, fundamentals aren't that strong. Even PIVX is more likely to get to $100 billion than BTC.

you're right its the old software but that makes it stable and predictable it can be the gold for long-term savings when something like dash, nem etc. is the everyday use currency.

Sounds incredible NEM can do 3000 tx/s

bitcoin could be the napster; but it needs the right fault

BCH is the improved version of BTC. It'll take over BTC in a year or at most 18 months (unless some major change happen in the crypto space).

Dash is very stable thanks to the masternodes. Currently there are about 4500 masternodes which has almost 1/3 of the circulating coins locked up. Dash has zero governance problems and more stable than BTC. It's also significantly old. I think it was released in 2014.

For the mid term, the best HODL is NEO. It produces GAS and will have produced most of the in the coming few years. It's like mining a coin without using any hardware.

I see absolutely ZERO value in holding BTC. It'll crash before next month (I might be little off with timing) but when it does crash, the zealots will be in a buying frenzy and it'll be a good short wave to catch. That's all the worth of BTC.

@vimukthi Weeeell ive been in crypto since 2011, hold dash among many others and you've not told me anything new there about scaling onchain for BTC - I imagine you know all those nasty offchain solutions going on there anyway and I wouldn't wish to bandy around allegations about how 'well informed' strangers are on the internet because... well, why would I?

But even with all the sabre rattling in the world today BTC still has a market cap of $67 billion and my assertions are these: btc WILL reach 100 billion before 31st of december 2020 and it will NOT be worth less than 5 billion at any stage between today and that date.

In the parallel universe where you ARE right may I suggest you sell all your crypto as if btc goes down that hard so does everything else in this space for a while so sell it all and buy back on the cheap.

PIVX is just butthurt dash so I'm not getting into that! I agree with you regarding BCH though: long slow death spiral probably awaits

BTC<BCH<<PIVX
PIVX is Dash lite. That alone makes it great. Anything that rips off Dash can only be so bad. The coin can fund its own projects instead of getting hijacked by SegWit and it has governance (ripped off from Dash of course). PIVX runs itself like a business.

Since you have been with BTC while it was genuinely the real deal (like the golden days of Nokia and Internet Explorer) I think you are too nostalgic and biased.

@vimukthi Ha ha you really do have the inside track on my psyche don't you?! 🤣 don't go changing son!

like your picks but seems like its always more to choose from iota in the same class as these imo

thanks

will die untill these coins will worth a s**t. bitcoin is the power!

How much does it cost to promote videos?

same as on steemit if u upload to dtube and post on here

Can you help me how to upload a picture here

you click select image when u first make a post

You can see their white paper, use cases and GitHub contributions to learn more about them https://github.com/eosio

Best trading platform for these crypto's in your opinion?
Thanks for sharing a really nice post

with btce gone - bittrex.com but dont store all ur savings on there or any exchange!

These are all my favorite cryptos. Great job for pointing them out.

Very interesting. Thank you!

But cold wallets are a pain.

dont go blindly after any altcoin. this market is un predictable and may cause you huge loss

right, could be a big bubble like the end of 2013.

I have some NEM, ETH, LTC, BTC. I like ZEC, XMR, DSH and BCN for privacy reasons.

what's BCN?

Thanks for the post. Why wasn't IOTA in here if you mentioned it? How about Stratis? Seems like so many great blockchain projects coming out here in the near future.

kept it short for timewise for me and the readers :) i almost did IOTA

Yea, this is why I'm so excited about blockchain projects, but I'm not stoked about the influx of GOS (greed, optimism, speculation). It's a HUGE bubble, so I'm just saving my cash and building up a stack to get back in once this thing pops.

I had a very similar realization that there are still so many big name coins that I have yet to really understand what product or service they offer. Maybe it's time to start reading up more on all of these projects instead of trying to learn proper trading techniques

yeah im looking for a one stop shop website that describes the differences but never stumbled on one yet.

Check also Wings and Safex. The last one just realeased its wallet and plans to launch the blockchain for October.

"It literally went from a 1 Million Dollar market cap to 1 Billion Dollars and Over in just 17 months! Just knowing that, there has to be something to it"

Yknow that is the kind of thinking that can lose you a fuckton of money. Im not disagreeing here in the case of NEM but overall avoid that sort of reasoning unless you have money to burn

yup, could be bubble like end of 2013.

I am excited about EOS.

I still don't understand why Ripple has such a demand when the company owns a vast amount of the coin and releases them. It seems ass backwards as to what crypto currency core meaning is for.

wow I didn't even mention that in my article dissing ripple! Did you hear ben bernanke is speaking at a blockchain conference sponsored by Ripple Labs?

Very nice post and interesting, I am very interested in this post and happy to see it, hopefully you succeed, thanks for sharing in information....

Do please tell us all exactly what you find interesting about this post, or are you just posting generic comments all over Steemit in the hope of making a few cents? If so, it really won't work. People will flag you rather than upvote you, because they are pissed off with the amount of spam they see in the comment section of posts.

Deesunshine I see this shit all over Steemit lol. I made a post a couple days back and received multiple weird responses almost generic.

Yeah, it pisses me off no end. I wish there were moderators who would ban spammers. They totally spoil what is otherwise a fantastic alternative to Facebook, with all its prudery, rules and regulations.
