Interesting find using Google Trends: SALT Lending Public Launch

in cryptocurrency •  7 years ago  (edited)

One strategy that I use to find interesting digital currencies is to set up Google Search Trend alerts for new coins of interest, such as SALT (-4.25%).

For example, Google searches for salt coin up went up >200% in past week. (I'll share more interesting search trends in the future, I promise!)

What is Salt Coin (SALT)?

Salt Coin is a way for people who have assets in cryptocurrency to borrow against it for fiat currency (USD, JPY, GPB, EUR, etc.) Instead of using your credit score to determine credit worthiness, investors will only require that you hold ETH or BTC as collateral in SALT Lending's systems. Basically, if you fail to pay your loan, lenders will be able to 'recoup' their losses (or a fraction of the costs of the loan) through the collateral.

Why does this matter?

Salt Lending is a way for people who have assets in cryptocurrency to borrow money without a credit score and without having to liquidate their cryptocurrency. This is a big deal for credit agencies, and certainly would disrupt the "source of truth" for who is a credit worthy individual. It also matters because institutional investors have also decided that digital currencies are an acceptable form of collateral. Because of how credit scores work, even inquiring about a loan counts as a "soft" or "hard" credit pull, potentially impacting your credit score. SALT completely avoids this annoying part about getting financing from traditional lenders.

Risks for Lenders

Similar to the housing bubble in the 2006-7s, if cryptocurrencies go "upside down" then there's no incentive for borrowers to pay back their loans. They'll say, Sure, go ahead and take my digital currencies, and I'll keep the cash you gave me. As of writing, they're advertising loans of up to a million dollars!

Applying for a loan

To apply to a loan, all that's needed to borrow more than 2,000 USD is your Photo ID, Name, Address, and Phone number, and ONE SALT. I recommend if you want to join via membership, buy SALT on Binance.com or some other exchange first and then use my
