Should I be afraid of investing in cryptocurrency?

With the ongoing rage of cryptocurrencies, I too wanna step in and make some quick bucks. But to be very honest, I'm a little afraid to do so as I am also hearing many opposing aspects of cryptocurrency. And these are not just coming from the usual jibber-jabber haters, but from the credible people who are in the finance industry from decades. And sometimes, they make pretty good points which no crypto trader can explain clearly.

So, I become confused here not being able to decide what to do.

I will be more clearer with my problem. But first, I wanna tell you what I think of cryptocurrency and technology supporting it, then I will tell you what I have been hearing from the "people".

What I think of cryptocurrency?

I studied blockchain technology(as a software engineer I understood it as well) on which the cryptocurrency is based on and there is no denying that this technology is here to stay and rule.

A blockchain is a decentralised pubic ledger which contain immutable records. This is the technology which can take over the world and bring down the bureaucracy which we all hate.

Blockchain is what made me interested in crypto in the first place. Anonymity and transparency are the strong points of crypto which it inherits from blockchain. So, with this we can image a world where we take away power from the central authority and gives it to the people(where it truly belongs) and consensus will do its job.

When we think of world like this, sure it looks amazing and promising but is it right in financial world? No doubt, blockchain has so many wonderful applications including @steemit, but is cryptocurrency a right application?

What I hear?

There are people like John McAfee who are very optimistic about cryptocurrency and says good about it all the time. Not to mention, his credibility comes from his successful Intel Security company McAfee Associates.

However, on the other hand are top investors in the world like Warren Buffet who keep saying that crypto will fail badly. Not just that, he also mentions there is no value of cryptocurrency and its just a mirage. Basically, he is saying that it is a bubble and will burst These are things that make me wonder who to listen to.

Now, I really wanna invest in cryptocurrency but at the same time I do not want to loose money or waste my time on a technology which is not worth it.
