YouTube Advertising User's Plow for Cryptocurrency Mine

Quoted Neowin, Saturday (27/1/2018), in order to get Cryptocurrency, some have a trick to mine them to earn passive income. There are reported methods by injecting websites or ads with cryptocurrency miner code.

While this is not new, the cryptocurrency mining code was recently found hidden in ads placed on YouTube. The finding is getting more and more disseminated when people are exposing on social media to highlight their antivirus software marking YouTube as a problem.

This method appears to be justified by Trend Micro, which explains that ads from the Google DoubleClick platform can be misused. Misused by injecting web miners into ads found on platforms.

The ad contains a Javascript that mines Monero through Coinhive. When a visitor browses a page and enjoys it from an infected website, the offender can utilize the computing resources, consuming it at high speed.

It's unfortunate that websites like YouTube do not monitor the types of ads that display well, but this is not the first time the issue has occurred.

Trend Micro states that the issue started on January 18, which means that Monero might be mined using other people's resources since then.

The Ars Technica website revealed that Google made statements regarding blocked ads in less than two hours. "Mineing cryptocurrency through advertising is a relatively recent form of harassment that violates our policies and one that we monitor actively," Google said.

The company continues, it is applying the policy through a layered detection system across all platforms that are updated as new threats emerge. In this case, ads are blocked in less than two hours and malicious offenders are immediately removed from the Google platform.
