Golem - Decentralized Computing

in cryptocurrency •  8 years ago

When I heard about Golem I immediately started to think about all the possibilities and all the money companies would save by using it. Imagine if companies like facebook started to use Golem to run their computational tasks how much they would save in computer maintenance costs, costs of buying more performing computers and so on, or if companies in the movie business started to use Golem to render their 3D movies, or if scientists started to use Golem to compute several tasks to find cures for certain diseases...

Golem's possibilities are endless, practically any task that you can think of can be achieved with the use of Golem. Golem is a decentralized super computer that runs on etherum. Basically Golem works in a similar way that Bitcoin mining does, it brings a network of computers together to complete the task at hand. It will split up the task into very small parts and distribute these small parts to each computer on the network and as soon as every small task is complete, Golem puts it back together and completes the task. This kind of technology is revolutionary and could bring so much to the table.

This is interesting... This could certainly help with the development and discovery of some useful new ideas.

yes, the only limiting factor to the utility of decentralized super computing is our brains. What I mean by that is if we can't think of how to use it then it won't be very useful, but otherwise it will change the world.

Well now you see, that is a very individualistic point of view... There are over 7 billion people on the planet. If there is something useful to do, it is possible to figure out collectively.

I am in agreement, my point is that if out of the 7 billion people we don't come up with anything then it's not very useful. Look at ethereum, it is a very promising platform but it isn't widespread yet. When the internet first came out it wasn't used to its fullest potential, and I think with time something as promising as golem and ethereum will end up like the internet in its popularity and utility. The tech in these cryptos are slightly ahead of their time, but as soon as more utility is found and taken advantage of they will surely soar :)

They are apparently very close to the release of the "brass" version, which will be a major release as kind of proof-of-concept for what Golem can do with rendering in Blender and LuxRender (distributed 3D rendering).
