DECENTRALIZED AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES FOR THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORTATION

Hollywood has put this picture of the future in the minds of people that may be hard to shake off. Flying cars and the future go hand in hand especially to millennial's who grew up at a time when most TV shows and cartoons depicted the future in this manner. This is still a dream to most people but there are some who are actually working to actualize what they saw years back.

One of these creatives is the CEO of TESLA, Elon Musk. He has started a string of futuristic companies that are mainly targeting the transport industry. From their autopilot feature in their TESLA cars to advanced rockets with SpaceX, the future of transportation seems to be in good hand. Another addition to this is the decentralized autonomous vehicle network that the DAV team is working on. DAV is working on making all these futuristic tech work together but it mainly focuses on the autonomous vehicles sectors which can have a host of applications.

Efficiency in the transport sector

Traffic jams and delays are common in any populous city these days. The numbers of cars on the road are growing daily as people opt for convenience over public transport especially in developing countries. Beating traffic may be one of the main goals for a large population of the world. It even influences when they take their meals and even when they wake up. Traffic can be attributed to more than just a lot of cars. Human error may sometimes lead to traffic as well. Countries loss millions of dollars to traffic jams annually as it affects the time one reaches work and also leads o burning or more fuel.

Autonomous vehicles can change the whole transport system that we have and usher it into a new era. Autonomous driving will first remove the need to have a car. Buying and maintaining a car is expensive and during these uncertain economic times, any form of savings may be welcomed by the majority of the world’s population. Autonomous vehicles can offer taxi services that are comfortable, convenient and quite cheap and can lead to a lot of savings especially when used jointly.

Google and Uber are part of the companies that are working on autonomous cars that can offer these taxi services.

  • Uber understands very well the needs of the market as it has been conducting taxi services since its inception in 2009.

  • Google understands software and they are using their prowess in tech to develop driverless cars for the future.

  • The expected market is great as most people would prefer having the convenience of movement without having the restrictions that a car brings.

Furthermore, this would be a very cost-effective method of transportation as the cost implications for car maintenance and purchase could be completely scrapped off. Traffic jams may also be a thing of the past if the adoption of this proposal happens effectively and the execution done in a functional manner.

Efficiency in transportation will also be provided by drones, yes, drones are not just for videography and photography. Drones can be used to reduce the number of vehicles on the road. Drone deliveries are being tested and developed so that deliveries that can be easily made with drones are taken off road transport. Drones will provide the efficiency and flexibility required as they are not hampered by traffic congestions and any road related delays. Although weather may affect their performance, research and development in this space can come up with solutions.

Drones cannot only make package deliveries but they can also be developed to deliver humans. Drone taxis may soon become a thing. They are also not affected by any road transport delays. The flexibility they offer can be utilized greatly by business men who need to move around cities from one meeting to the next. They also offer the comfort of working privately as the drone taxis that are being developed are currently only functional with one passenger.

Supporting other industries

Most of these autonomous vehicles run on electricity. Electricity is quite efficient but has the drawback of a more frequent charging need especially where the workload is great. Charging stations may open in various parts of the world to support autonomous vehicles. There is also a possibility of opening up parking stations that only take up autonomous vehicles. This also opens up investment opportunities for those who may want to invest indirectly in the transport sector.

DAV platform

The DAV platform wants to use blockchain to bring the autonomous vehicle industry into cooperation. By hosting all these service providers in one platform, the whole autonomous experience can be made satisfactory and even more to the population. Furthermore, hosting them on one platform will make it easier for people to make requests related to autonomous vehicles conveniently from the palm of their hands.

The future is edging closer towards us each day and we are the ones that can speed up this process through investing in the right technologies and supporting innovators that want to change the world. The DAV platform is having their crowdsale from 11th of June and it will run through until the 25th of June, 2018. They will be selling their DAV tokens which will help them get the money they need to make this platform a reality. Furthermore, purchases will have tokens that they can use to access DAV services once they are made available.

"Yes, drones are not just for videography and photograph."

Too true. A lot of people still feel drones are a toy. AV market is growing at a great pace but mostly out of the public eye. The scope of DAV's reach is huge.

Drone taxis sound crazy, so I looked it up and it's true. It sounds like DAV could operate like a metro pass that lets you pay once and go from bus>AV car>drone and get home after a night of drinking.

DAV will synchronize well with emergent technology like eVTOLs

Mobility in all forms is sure to undergo a rapid transformation. Along with DAVs AV technology and on demand air transport, the future is exciting for us all.
